Listening to some of the international dubs and in the Flemish version of What Is This Feeling they literally say they loathe each other to the point of arousal... these lesbians...

Hard disagree. Everything about the "Defying Gravity" sequence is perfect, literally everything. The way it builds is unbelievable and so tense, which is why the payoff at the end has been having everyone sobbing.

Yes, when the lines "everyone deserves a chance" starts, I begin to feel the tears then they fall down when "FLY" hits :jonny: seeing it for a third time tonight

After watching Wicked a second time I loved it just as much. I still think some scenes should have been cut down a bit. I'm also on the side of Defying Gravity was fumbled. Cynthia performs it amazingly but it keeps stopping for long extended scenes. I would have at least cut the bit of her falling and seeing her younger self. I don't think that was needed to show the culmination of her arc for this movie. Anyway still an amazing movie, a brilliant adaptation of Wicked the musical and I want Cynthia and Ariana to win at the oscars. I'll be supporting them this season I don't think any other movie will sway me.

Do y'all think miss Grande-Butera has the chance of winning the Oscar for this movie?

And if it doesn't happen could she do it for part 2?

i feel like the reason Zoe will win over her is because members of the academy will vote knowing this is not the end of the story and that Ariana will get another chance next year

I'm pretty confident Part 1 will go empty handed in pretty much everything, especially the actors. that's usually the case with films in multiple parts that were filmed in one go. it reminds of the 3 part of Lord of the rings, the first 2 part got some nominations but didn't win anything but when the last part got released they won everything and broke all records. it's like the academy was waiting for the the story to be over to reward them. a similar thing will happen here.

The concern is that Glinda has a much smaller role in Act II and, overall, it's not as dynamic. In Act I G(a)linda has comedic, dramatic, and serious scenes with bigger musical moments.

I feel like part one is the better shot at acting wins. The academy loves musicals, it's reviewing well, Cynthia and Ariana gave performances everyone agrees are fantastic. LOTR is more of an ensemble than wicked. I think the focus on Elphie and Glinda would make acting noms easier.

A point against Ariana I guess is that she isn't a well established actor but I think she could overcome that.

Part two might be more difficult for both of them but especially Ariana. The second half of the stage show is more controversial they are also gonna probably add more original stuff than they did for this one which could go badly. Part one has all the best songs too. Elphaba has good moments still in part two but Glinda is a villain for a lot of it and not focused on as much as part one either. So yeah idk maybe part two will be amazing too but atm I'd bank on part one being the better shot for them especially Ariana.

I couldn't disagree more with the bold.

That literally makes the scene. That was the moment that really hit me and started the water works...

!!

I'm baffled by some of the takes in here on "Defying Gravity". It's literally the scene that has resonated the most with audiences (that and the Ozdust Ballroom scene). Why would you want to remove the parts that build the tension and are the emotional core of the scene/song? Wild.

I've seen a couple of WILD takes in reference to the Ozdust Ballroom scene... "I don't get it"... honestly, it just makes me mad.

That scene had my convulsing in the cinema for about 6 minutes straight... that right there was the heart of the entire movie. And for anyone that's felt different/out of place in any sort of social setting I think it really resonates. Probably one of the most emotionally charged moments in cinema this year... and for blockbusters, maybe even this decade.

And Defying Gravity was done perfectly. I don't think there's a single thing I would have changed or done differently.

I have seen this movie now three times and I've been listening up and down to the soundtrack, Ariana sounds the best she has ever sounded vocally on this album/OST, it's amazing to witness it in real time. Also happy to see the awards the film industry has been rewarding her (even a nom is a reward and Golden Globes are like the second highest award show in the film industry), so far.

No One Mourns The Wicked, Popular, The Wizard and I, Dear Old Shiz, I'm Not That Girl are all on repeat. :jonny2:

So it's looking at 430-470M in the US and 150M-170M WW in the end.

580M-640M in the end.

As I was saying in the beginning. It won't touch the 708M that Dune2 did.

Even if you guys reviled me when I said it.

I didn't expect the US cume to be over 400M. Of course that was my mistake. But... I did not miss on my outside the US estimation...

It's already almost at 150m WW. With Germany having its official release date today and Japan in 2025.
