when was the last time a musical was even global? the lion king? west side story?

Wonka was a smash hit last year. Disney generally does well globally, as did The Greatest Showman and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. West Side Story kind of bombed everywhere but it came out at a weird time lol.

The 2012 Les Miserables movie did well internationally too, but those 1980s megamusicals like Les Mis and Phantom are a lot more global than any American musical from the 21st century in general (which makes Cats flopping even worse lol). Wicked might have a bit of an uphill battle internationally, but most other Broadway shows from the last 25 years would fare even worse.

I did not expect the movie to be this ******* good :jonny5: My jaw was on the floor when it was over, I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a cinema experience this much. So freaking excited for Part 2 :jonny2:

Monday box office (Dec 3)

#1 Moana 2: 5.7M

#2 Wicked: 5.6M

Seems like Moana 2 hype is gone and Wicked is very stable.

Can't believe Wicked The Soundtrack is going to make another 100k+ units this week in the US and will only drop to #3 after the #2 debut. :WAP:

That's crazy, isn't it? Moana is going to have a big edge worldwide I think, but it's still very impressive.

Ariana completely bodied her role OMFG. This was giving method acting. That was 100% Glinda on screen. She came prepared and ready to slay. I honestly felt like Ariana stole every scene for me and overshadowed Cynthia. I know homegirl is getting more praise than Ariana from what I've seen but honestly she felt like a supporting role in comparison to Ariana. I was skeptical about Ariana's acting in the trailers but she deserves all the praise. The movie was incredible and actually felt like real cinema from back in the day. I really need to watch again for Ariana. Her talent truly is once in a generation.

Apparently it's actually because Universal refused to cut the scenes of Fiyero being flirty with the guys. Good on them for standing on principle :clap3: Disney can't relate

Wicked won NBR's Best Film Award and Jon M. Chu won Best Director! Cynthia & Ariana to be honored with the Spotlight Award. This is one of the big 3 critics awards. No doubt in my mind Wicked is getting that BP nom if anyone was still questioning it. :clap3:
