Wicked (2024) | Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande | RT: 90% MC: 73

I've read a lot of complaints about the dubbing from people in various countries. Hopefully the original English language version is available too in those places. It would be a shame if this prevents Wicked from becoming a success in new markets.

The Dutch dub looks surprisingly good. It probably helps that the show had already been translated into Dutch before, and the cast looks promising as well. They've done a good job of matching the voice actors to the characters (including race appropriate casting for the Black and Asian characters) and it's an interesting mix of actors who've already done Wicked on stage and actors who are new to the show/film.

Them still complaining about Elphaba being "blackwashed" when the central message of the story is that she's treated differently due to the color of her skin :bibliahh: You can literally spell it out for them and they still don't get it, good Lord

Several black women have played Elphaba since Saycon Sengbloh made her debut in the role in 2005 mind you, and the stage production has ALWAYS had male characters in skirts and dresses

They are such liars lol. If the movie offends them the musical would have too. So transparent in being full of s***, they were never fans of the musical lmao. :rip:

I have many friends that want to go see this but the slots for this are terrible in my country omg :deadbanana: We literally could not decide on anything for this weekend nor the next.

I don't get it, especially since it's doing very well apparently in the US? For Friday there's only 3 slots at the most popular cinema nearby, whereas Moana has freaking 13. Not to mention, it's not playing in IMAX at all, only 2d or regular 3D (which I hate).

I might just go see it by myself on Saturday at noon in 2d. So disappointing :noparty:
