I thought Defying Gravity was going to be the most emotional scene for me but it was this one. :cries:

On my first watch, yeah, the Ozdust scene made the emotional the most. But on my second watch, DG scene killed me.

Heavy spoilers for part 2:

Spoiler

Glinda thinks Elphaba is really dead. After the fake melting, Elphaba says she wishes she could let Glinda know she's still alive, to which Fiyero answers that no one can ever know

I just got out from my screening and wow, wicked is movie of the year. I had such a good experience the whole time. Both of Cynthia and Ariana did an amazing job. Also, the movie made me teary a couple of times. :weeps:
Now I can't wait for part 2 next year! :duca:

"Dancing Through Life" is gay AF. :rip: There are guys lusting after Fiyero, alongside the women. Plus Fiyero is definitely bi in the film. :toofunny3:

Also, Jonathan Bailey is a snack in that number :gaycat4:

Hurricane Moana coming to stomp all over Wicked's second week I fear

That and Gladiator still taking up so many of the premium showings and that's before we even get to Mufasa

Last year I said they should really aim to have this out September/October to take advantage of Halloween hype (and an unremarkable season at the BO with no competition). Losing screens to all these big movies is really just bad timing :cries:

This project already sounds like a nonstarter. They're setting themselves up.

What happened to the Hercules live action movie? Meg would have been a much better role for Ariana.

Musicals are already dying at the box office, this director's last musical was a massive bomb and this led them to think "We should do TWO"?

Another (two) flops in the basket.

Did it lose screens though? There was a report saying it kept the same amount as last week. 3,888, I believe

It already was losing premium screens to Gladiator its first week and I believe Gladiator actually increased screens its second week. I still don't have any late evening IMAX showings in my area. :chick3:

I don't know if releasing before October would've helped though because October is notoriously a slow time for the movies.

I am not sure how it will fare in France, as there has been some mockery online following the release of clips from the French dubbed version during advanced screenings.

It's puzzling why Universal made this choice, considering that, to my knowledge, Wicked has never been adapted into French nor performed in English in Paris.

While dubbing can be effective, the lyrics appear to be very close to the English version "défier la gravité"), unlike Disney, which typically takes time to thoroughly translate and adapt their content. And Ariana's voice seems more mature than her actual.

Everything of this happened for Italy too! Musicals aren't really a thing here, it's been sitting at #3 at the box office I believe.

Just finished watching this and it didn't feel that it was that long. I was actually surprised it was almost over.

Ariana's victorious role jumped out and Cynthia mothered as well.

I've read a lot of complaints about the dubbing from people in various countries. Hopefully the original English language version is available too in those places. It would be a shame if this prevents Wicked from becoming a success in new markets.

The Dutch dub looks surprisingly good. It probably helps that the show had already been translated into Dutch before, and the cast looks promising as well. They've done a good job of matching the voice actors to the characters (including race appropriate casting for the Black and Asian characters) and it's an interesting mix of actors who've already done Wicked on stage and actors who are new to the show/film.
