Donquizote Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 It's worth noting that Wicked has been screened to more than 900 AMPAS members and most of them love it 8
Sharamee6 Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 JFAD was sacrificed to allow a true musical shine - Wicked. I watched it yesterday and I really enjoyed it. I think Ariana has a best supporting act nod in the bag, potentially even win. She really took me by surprise.. From her acting skills, to how better she's become with choreography to her beautiful voice. This Gah-linda will be very hard to top, in case of remakes in 30 years. Clearly Cynthia was equally as good as Ari. Perfect cast. Solid 8/10 6
Miss Anthropocene Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 (edited) This is such a moment, I know it's popular with theatre goers but Wicked will be such a staple in popular culture now and it's about f*king time Edited November 23, 2024 by Miss Anthropocene 4 4

Donquizote Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 This movie will follow the path of Les Mis or Chicago. Lots of Oscar nominations and win for supporting actress 3 1
Jude Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 Ariana is soon pass Zoe in Goldderby Experts Odds Predictions ranking. The film Twitter and the selenators there are going to riot. 4 1

Blue Monday Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 I'm finally going today and I'm so excited my expectations were honestly very low considering how long they've been trying to make this movie happen so I'm happy that not only is it not a CATS level disaster but that it's actually great. 3

Jude Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 Apparently it's Cynthia's first entry on Global Spotify. A career defining moment for her. 2 5
Tovitov Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 I was going to try and get my friends to see this with me, but I'm too excited and might go see a Sunday Night showing by myself

Is it that bad? Lol there's a certain fanbase that has it in their minds that Ariana's team is somehow trying to disparage/derail Zoe Saldana's campaign. They're just trying to cope with the reality that Wicked is not the disaster they were assuming (hoping) it would be and that Ariana is looking primed to receive her first nomination, unlike their fave who is probably on the outside looking in this year. It's just noise though; no one who has any say in these things pays attention to this stuff Edited November 23, 2024 by Blue Monday 8

Some parts, although nice, felt like fillers but overall the pace is decent, so most people won't mind the fact that it's that long. I personally think it could have been a very solid 1hr 45mins movie max. 1 1
eclipsed Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 Not a big fan of musicals, but this one was a great one. Popular and Defying Gravity were always favs of mine and seeing them was spectacular. I'm a bit confused on some plot points, like the animal stuff felt undercooked and didn't really understand why they didn't want them speaking anymore.. and the turn to villain was a bit jarring but its whatever it gives Disney Villain (which as it should I guess) in terms of Glinda I honestly thought she was a terrible friend the entire way through lol, I felt so bad for Elphaba in general like damn.. I think both Cynthia and Ari crushed their roles I'm here for them getting Oscar noms, in terms of wins idk if competition is weak then maybe? I haven't seen a lot of the compeition this year but its giving Barbie like yes nominate America and Ryan but is it worthy of an Oscar win? idk.. it doesn't really scream Oscar to me but at least in this case Cynthia and Ari had the incredible vocals so I'd be here for it if it did happen.
Thuggin Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 So I saw this last night with my boyfriend and omg HOW WAS THIS 2 HOURS AND 40 MINUTES! Am I the only one the movie absolutely flew by for? When we got to the Defying Gravity number, I was like "wait, is this movie already about to be over?" I wanted to watch it for hours longer! Every musical number was perfect! Every scene was necesssary! There was never a moment I was bored! From the moment Ariana came down in that bubble, I knew I was gonna be glued to the screen! Not to be a broken record with everyone else, but Ariana literally couldn't have been more perfect in the role! Amazing live singing, stunts, choreo, effortlessly switching back and forth between comedy and emotional moments. If it were Amanda Seyfried doing all of what Ariana did in the role, we wouldn't even be questioning whether or not she was getting nominated for an Oscar. She literally had it all and I couldn't stop smiling watching her! And any scene she wasn't in, I was just waiting for her to come back. The audience in my theater laughed at like every line she delivered. And of course Cynthia. CHILLS during The Wizard and I! That scene was so simple but that's all you need with a voice like that! And drawing out Defying Gravity the way they did was incredible! That scene as well as the ballroom scene were so emotional, and Cynthia always sells it with just her eyes! A bunch of people in my theater were crying after both of those scenes, and the whole audience clapped and cheered after the movie was over! The whole cast did great, but Cynthia and Ariana's chemistry CARRIED this movie! My one nitpick is that the lighting does wash everything out in certain scenes, but by the time they get to Emerald City and ESPECIALLY when they're with the Wizard, everything is GORGEOUS! Loved this movie and I can't wait to see it again for Singalong or in IMAX since I only saw Standard! 14
KKW Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 The camera cut/transition from Elphaba's snap at Glinda to Glinda and her minions with the books is so perfect 3
