Eóghan Posted November 19 Posted November 19 i'd be way more confident for a good oscar campaign if the Metacritic score was 80+, i hope it can get close to high 70s rather than low, a lot of movies can achieve low 70s this movie needs all the cards it can get to overcome the prejudice of it's gendra now it needs to be a box office smash like Barbie (80 on MC) then it really has a chance to sweep plenty of nominations it's good we have RT on our side but it doesn't have same prestige as MC for awards circuit 1

It's her first movie and a fantasy one at that. People were predicting this to bomb. Let's be happy it will probably be a commercial hit trust and believe she will be campaigning hard for that nomination. i'm just curious what the approach will be

I enjoyed it but it didn't blow me away. Hopefully Wicked is better despite the critic scores. 1

But all one can do is focus on the present. There's this hugely promoted big feature of part 1 on all screens this Friday and it looks like its doing great, ngl. Let's focus on that atm and not bother with next year's movie, right. 1
Funhouse Posted November 19 Posted November 19 The BBC review saying they should've cut the talking animals and the entire character of Nessarose so they could've fit both acts in 1 film... baby there would not be an act 2 without the talking animals and Nessarose 4 1 4
Augmented Posted November 19 Posted November 19 I know it's only the starting numbers but I was a bit worried the complaints about the second act and the bad lighting would cause this to debut mid/high 70s so I'm absolutely ecstatic about these initial reviews 57 minutes ago, Funhouse said: The BBC review saying they should've cut the talking animals and the entire character of Nessarose so they could've fit both acts in 1 film... baby there would not be an act 2 without the talking animals and Nessarose Not removing the animal rights plot AND Nessa They must have been joking surely because
Dula Peep Posted November 19 Posted November 19 The amount of promo and product placement for this film is absolutely insane and tbh completely overkill….. 1

Sometimes they align, sometimes they don't. Green Book won BP with a 69 MC score, CODA won BP with a 72 MC score. Emilia Pérez is considered a BP contender this year with a 72 MC score. Les Miserables, another Broadway movie-musical adaptation, was nominated for BP with a 63 MC score. As long as the movie gets overall good reviews the score isn't that important. Wicked isn't contending for a win either. It will get the populist blockbuster slot in BP. Universal will campaign hard for it, especially for Ariana & Cynthia who both have a good shot at nominations. Although Ariana is a safer bet because Supporting Actress is kinder to musical (and comedic) performances. Cynthia has stronger competition, but I can see her getting in too.
