93% with 95 reviews. Unlikely that goes below 90%

Was hoping for high 70s on Metacritic but we'll take it. Guess Jon needs to up the Contrast for those finnicky color/lighting stans for Part 2 :clack:

OMG the universal acclaim :jonny: :jonny6:

the way everyone on reddit/twitter had been doubting this and being negative toward it and the cast only to prove them wrong and have this much acclaim is satisfying :alexz:

gaga is probably turning in her malibu home

She's done nothing but support Ari and vice versa. Plus, Gaga has had her moment WITH an Oscar nod and this could be Ari's first time so there's nothing to scuff at.

Metacritic has an odd rating system. None of their reviews for Wicked are negative and the majority are positive, whereas Wicked is sitting at 93% off 100 reviews and a 99% audience score on RT. Audience scores are what people look for for word of mouth anyway, so universal acclaim is an appropriate term.

It kinda is reminiscent of Barbie and its initial reaction vs. how it went.

A 3.5 score (7/10) counts as a Fresh score on RT. It's not "odd", just different

Metacritic's grading system is much better than RT's

I'm still not sure what to think.

I will be watching, but the Barbie hype was huge and it was praised as an emotional masterpiece but the film ended up not being good at all

It almost seems like the Wicked team have copy and pasted everything about the Barbie promo/hype but done a little more.

reading the reviews and it's not really universal acclaim for ariana, we need a real good campaign for the oscar nod to happen :chick1:

At the end of the day, both are moot points as art is inherently subjective and can be graded differently from different perspectives and no amalgamation of those necessarily reflects an accurate "score".

THE HYPE ALL SUDDENLY FEELS EXTREMELY PALPABLE

100%. Bloggers who screams masterpiece at every new movie downgrade RT real power. Metacritic is much more balanced with its pool and it's always more interesting to check it than RT.

Y'all need to stop setting her up with that. That was always going to be an uphill battle. It's her first movie and a fantasy one at that. People were predicting this to bomb. Let's be happy it will probably be a commercial hit :suburban:

Obsessed Ariana haters swore this would flop and be panned but it's about to be her 2nd movie with a Best Picture nom. :fan:

My God, you've been nothing but negative and annoying on this thread and every Wicked related thread ever since Ariana was announced as Glinda. Get a grip, the movie is acclaimed and it's doing good, move on and stop trying to ruin the mood for people :rip:

Ariana doesn't need to get into BSA for this to be a win for her. It's going to be a big hit and she is getting decent to good reviews

Not everything needs to be Oscar nominated to be good for the actor's career

Grace Randolph having power on RT is really all you need to know about their grading system
