Came here to say this, I don’t know the storyline that well, but I’ve heard Dorothy doesn’t appear o isn’t referenced until almost the ending, I don’t get why would they show this now unless it’ll only be one movie

I think it’s cause it’s just a teaser, putting a big chunk of a song would take most of the time (since they only had one minute), I think they could use “No one mourns the wicked” on future trailers

To give football fans a reference as to wtf the movie is about. Movie trailers show footage not in the actual movie ALL the time. It’s marketing.

Go look at the runtime for some of the highest grossing movies of all time. Oppenheimer didn’t invent box office

ETA: Just saw the Variety article. I stand corrected! I hope they don’t shoot themselves in the foot with this. 

 

I’m not saying you’re wrong but to be fair, Wicked is not a new IP in the slightest. It’s been a worldwide phenomenon since its debut for the past 20 years and already has an incredibly devoted and loyal fanbase integrated into it. The only announcement of a two-parter was via the director’s IG, a very obscure outlet to obtain news, and then maybe some entertainment outlets. None of the marketing has suggested since, so it would be a very poorly planned marketing “tactic” to bait and switch a general audience into a two-part musical, let alone a musical at all. Again, not saying you’re wrong, just looking at it from a logistical standpoint.
