Agree, this one is Wicked, the second can be Wicked: Part Two or whatever. But I’m lowkey hoping it’s just one movie 1

NumbSoul Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 It actually looks pretty cute! Better than I expected, for sure! That Xtina-esque screech at the end of the trailer took me out though 2 2
Magdalene Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 if they saw that oppenheimer was a smash on a 3 hour runtime and decided to edit it down to one movie it could work
Khal Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 The VF photoshoot was serving CW (derogatory) but the teaser isn't too bad. 2
Achilles. Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 It’s giving lesser Wonka and might also get shut out at the Oscars like that did.

Movie trailers show footage not in the actual movie ALL the time. It’s marketing.

Oppenheimer didn’t invent box office 1
BODERLINE Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 (edited) That Vanity Fair photo is a MESS, but I thought the actual trailer looked really good Why are they showing stuff in the trailer that should technically be in Part 2 though? Edited February 12, 2024 by BODERLINE

Gerardo Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 Quote “We didn’t want to end up making one four-hour movie and then cutting out songs. We want to satisfy the fans of the musical,” says Platt. “Film allows you to create a place and a time—a university like Shiz, an extraordinary Emerald City governor’s mansion. There’s so much more to explore.” This is from the Vanity Fair article, it’s indeed two films https://t.co/egWgegifEW

ETA: Just saw the Variety article. I stand corrected! I hope they don’t shoot themselves in the foot with this. I’m not saying you’re wrong but to be fair, Wicked is not a new IP in the slightest. It’s been a worldwide phenomenon since its debut for the past 20 years and already has an incredibly devoted and loyal fanbase integrated into it. The only announcement of a two-parter was via the director’s IG, a very obscure outlet to obtain news, and then maybe some entertainment outlets. None of the marketing has suggested since, so it would be a very poorly planned marketing “tactic” to bait and switch a general audience into a two-part musical, let alone a musical at all. Again, not saying you’re wrong, just looking at it from a logistical standpoint. Edited February 12, 2024 by Mystic Warrior
