The fact that this won't change anything and we're all still gonna die in a few years from climate change :emofish:

This reminds me of when I had to watch a documentary for one of my writing courses my sophomore year of college and in it, there was a video of this man shooting himself in a setting like this but it was in front of everyone in the room and the media. Of course I just had to look up the original footage because I was curious, I literally couldn’t get that image out of my head for weeks. So disturbing.

Why do people do this?

No words.

RIP to this person.

The worst part is that it doesnt do anything to push forward climate change activism other than lose his life. :rip:

he killed himself and nothing would change :rip: that's sad

Shooting yourself is one thing, but self immolating? Cannot imagine what must go through someone's head to carry them through that act

!!! Honestly one of the worst ways to go, seems more like a suicidal person

the way his death meant nothing :toofunny2: what a waste

We’re all probably going to burn, drown or starve due to climate change so he was just getting a head start…

:doc: I was just there a few weeks ago, would have been pretty morbid to witness as a bystander. Sad that he chose such a gruesome way to go.

Thought he would make NOISE but no one is listening. Truly tragic. RIP KING.

Really sad, but it will not change a thing. The message/movement is absolutely right ( the planets livelihood is hanging by a thread, and the time for drastic measures to change course is NOW), but the public at large doesn’t want to hear it and don’t care, and in many ways, it’s completely understandable. Many people are struggling just to get through the day/week, in their mind, they have no time to think about issues that are long term, and isn’t immediately impacting their day to day life in any noticeable way.

I really do wish this could make a difference, and all these activists who are fighting for a noble cause were making things change, but the sad reality is just this: the overwhelming majority support to truly make politicians take notices is not there, and too many politicians (in both parties) are too bought off $$ to care about making changes anyway

Suicidal person would find the least possible painless method to die...the self immolation was clearly for political reasons aka climate change.

Poor guy ugh

Horrible, and the fact that no one cares says it all. Our world is literally dying and no one cares.

*Obviously some people care, but not enough care and not enough people are doing anything to help.

I know it's sad to say, but this probably is counterproductive.

Climate change is set towards a point that won't change. It's beaded in our economic system, and we live our lives and form omorals around said economic system, so this cannot be a a quick fix.

RIP to him, that’s sad.  Obviously this would never impact anything so I’m a bit sus on this being purely about climate change, maybe he was also mentally ill.

As long as we live in a capitalist system it’s gonna be SO hard for things to change. Capitalism isn’t build on sustainability or care, it’s build on a fable of ever expanding growth and for that endless amounts of resources and exploitation are needed

Also sadly, there’s little real effect normal citizens can have, it’s all in the hands of big corporations and politicians but they, again, only care about growth

This is no better than climate activists who glue themselves to the street in highways.

Considering Biden (of the supposedly more environmentally-conscious party) has okayed more drilling permits in 1 year than Trump (of the climate denialist party) did in 4... Hard to see how that changes. Both parties are beholden to oil companies. And Joe Biden is pretty much the least environmentally-conscious president we've ever had at a time we're staring down the barrel of unmitigated catastrophe.

:biblio:

I know that ppl elected Joe just to remove Trump

but damn, cant happen any faster..
