Why was the final season of Game of Thrones so... bad - what happened?

Game of Thrones was once considered Must See TV and it's final season left something to be desired. What happened?

The showrunners got bored of the show and wanted to end it ASAP so they could move on to work on Star Wars for Disney. No one else (HBO, GRRM) wanted the show to end and wanted 2-3 more season to properly do the ending.

Funny thing is, the season was received so badly that they were taken off Star Wars :bibliahh:

I find it even worse that there was once a petition to remake the final season. Like how does the production not notice there was a starbucks cup in view of the camera?

Dumb & Dumber rushed it so they could get started on directing Star Wars and then that white supremacy fanfic show, and both got cancelled :clown:

It felt like a fever dream :deadbanana2: everyone learnt their lesson and hit series now are doing their best at ending the show. La Casa de Papel did a very safe ending, and it seems like Stranger Things are getting prepared to wrap things up the best way possible. I just know nobody is rewatching it :ahh:

It still hurts, so much time invested only to murder every character's development :skull: Jamie, Brienne, Bran, Tyrion, Cersei, Jon, Sansa, Arya :deadbanana4: Only Melisandre and The Hound/Mountain had  deserving endings

do you think the show jumped the shark giving Ed Sheeran a cameo?

I genuinely don't think that show could have been finished in a satisfying manner. The plot is just too unwieldy. Clearly GRRM has also no idea what to do with it, so what are a few TV writers going to do. Obviously, the rushed pace and the shorter final season made everything even worse as everyone else has mentioned.

have the authors of the book series commented on the final season?

He apparently had not been happy with the series since season 5/6 anyway and had been pushing for the series to have 10 seasons.

Arya and Brienne becoming c*ck-hungry in the middle of a war. Cersei doing nothing except look out of her balcony and drink wine while her precious city burned down. Daenerys dying.

They fcked over the female characters so badly. It’s the misogyny for me.

I never got the appeal in the first place

He keeps flip flopping. But it does seem like the major ending plot points are what GRRM was planning.

The Game of Thrones finale makes Pretty Little Liars's finale look Emmy worthy

The terrible Ed cameo looks great in comparison with the last season :deadbanana2: but yes, it was when people started to complain and you could see that D&D were't seen as great showruners by the public in general

Pretty Little Liars was always a messy show and not supposed to be taken seriously lol, it had the ending(s) it deserved

We didn’t even get a final confrontation between Sansa and Cersei :cries:

that would have been a moment tbh

Nah we're not talking about GOT in 2022.

Spoiler

They ruined several character's storylines.  That's what happened. There was never a hint of Daenerys being evil. Not one hint. And if someone says "she killed people" well almost every character did, does that mean they are evil? John? Arya? Ned Stark?

You can't have Dany risk her life several times to save so many people that she didn't even need to save and then once she actually wins the war, she suddenly decides to kill everyone? :toofunny2:  It made 0 sense.

Another thing on the top of my head - Bran becoming the king :ahh:  They spend an ENTIRE season explaining to us and letting us know that Bran is no longer Bran, that he is the 3YR and he this "neutral" being that isn't exactly part of "society" the way the others are. And then somehow the three eyed raven, becomes Bran again (Bran the broken) and becomes king. I get it that he was still the 3YR, but why would they call him Bran the broken when he is no longer Bran please :toofunny2:  Horrid!

John Snow's big ending being him going beyond the wall :toofunny2:

let me stop here..

What baffles me is that it has a 9.3 on IMDb when most people talk crap about the last season.

I thought nothing would be worse than Angel Season 4 but Game of Throne's final season happened

It was very rushed and they didn’t have the books to follow. It really went from one of the best shows of all time to an absolute disaster.

They rushed it to start with Star Wars only for that project to get cancelled

so basically they ruined it for nothing :rip:

the consequences are really bad cause the show lost its replay value and no one is watching it anymore

with a great ending it could have had a great legacy like Harry Potter or lord of the rings with many generations loving and rewatching it and the companies still making money off of it

idiots lmao

It had a world full of potential and spin-off ideas and everything ruined because the showrunners were hacks

it's really sad how bad its reputation is now when it was pretty amazing for more than half its run.  As disappointing as how it ended I do miss how communal of a show it was.

The show had been going downhill since season 4 or so tbh

Posted

cause even GRRM didn't know how to end it

Game of thrones should’ve had 9 seasons, with all of them having 10 episodes.

The golden army were scrapped, the sands hand their own huge arc, Arya didn’t finish her list properly, so many missed opportunities.
