mystery Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 (edited) It was about time to explore the Outer Planets of the Solar System, Jupiter and Saturn have gotten a lot of attention and missions over the last decades but Uranus and Neptune were always mostly ignored. The last time they were probed in more detail was with the Voyager 2 probe that was just doing a gravity assist flyby on its way out of the Solar System. They hold a lot secrets waiting to be discovered so I am excited to see what they find. A shame that they can't get a viable transfer trajectory to Neptune. It seems that they are looking at a 2032 launch with a 13 year travel period with several gravity assists and arrival at Uranus in 2045! Which is quite some time away from now. Most of ATRL will be in their 50s (though no doubt still arguing about MPG's). Some of the other missions that the report describes in more detail besides the Uranus Orbiter and Probe are the Mars Sample Return Mission, Enceladus Orbilander and other "smaller scale" missions focused on asteroid & comet sample returns as well as Lunar & Mars landers and a possible Titan orbiter. You can read a summary of the report & the suggested missions HERE at this post on Reddit. The full report document can be found HERE for anyone that wants to read the actual thing (though it is quite long). Edited April 20, 2022 by mystery

KingJay Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 I hate to admit it, but I'm on the same boat as ya'll, for some reasons hearing, reading & making jokes about Uranus makes me laugh. I just cannot help it. Same thing when someone says Idaho. I always have to say "Udaho
