Yes, assuming someone's sexual orientation and pressuring them to come out is problematic. If you want to believe that Shawn isn't straight, that's fine, you can believe that for yourself, but constantly trying to get someone to do something they clearly have reasons for not doing (either because it isn't true or because they aren't ready) makes you look insensitive. Also, to that one person saying that the overwhelming reaction to coming out is positive in modern society, I really must beg that you do your research before claiming such falsehoods. LGBTQIA+ youths are four times more likely to seriously consider and attempt suicide than their peers. I ask people here to be kind and understand that you never truly know what someone is going through. You just never know, he could be really struggling with anxiety, or depression, he could be dealing with external pressures we're not privy to. Who knows. It's one thing to say the letter lacks depth, that's not something I can really argue against, but to use it to make assumptions of his life is unwarranted and completely unnecessary. Is actively propping up a lie with the relationships he's had hurting society at large as people here are arguing? I mean, in principal, but he's harmless. I'm just tired by him honestly. He's targeting almost tween MOR radio audiences both professionally and personally still as he's grown and it's just become really boring. He seems sweet and I understand engaging with his fans but maybe he needs to take a break from the industry to reinvent, refresh, or move on entirely. All of his contemporaries seem to be branching out and finding their own lane, like Harry Styles, Troye Sivan, and even Justin Bieber. Shawn just seems stuck. I wish him the best. He feels like the sort of artist that'll quit music as soon as he starts tanking. I am still awaiting a main pop boy to make some fun synth smash bops, Harry Styles will do for now, but I hope Shawn can switch things up because he's just not that interesting musically at all.
