TheBoss Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 https://www.instagram.com/p/CcjSqTlDzfo/ Do you agree with the Violets Bent Backwards Over the Grass writer?
Ice Cream Skies Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 Interesting that it's her favorite. I love it, too. I have the book and vinyl. She needs to put it on ******* streaming.

EdgeofTeeth Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 I mean, it's stunning. I remember the audiobook came out while I was vacationing at the beach, so I downloaded and listened while watching the ocean and sailboats and it brought me to tears
Cruel Summer Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 Alright, fine. I've been getting very into poetry lately - has anyone listened to it or read it here? Is it worth it? For Lana, of all artists, I'll listen to her poetry work without going into it expecting anything bad. Reviews seem good.
shookspeare Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 I love lana and generally indulge her delusions that she is the 21st century Sylvia Plath/Emily Dickinson, but her poetry sucks the fans want another UV/NFR before you cosplay a poet full time
James_Dean Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 I swear she literally says things just to go against the grain

Personally speaking, I see there's a lack of "technique", but it's poetry after all. There are thousands of forms of poetry. They're similar to some Blue Banisters lyrics -- casual, strong storytelling, details, random stuff. They can get intense and interesting, there are ideas worth reading. LA Who Am I to Love You is everyone's favorite.

suburbannature Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 She seems so sweet. It's too bad people don't realize it because of her random rants.
xXavril Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 (edited) I love Violet so much but I struggle to consider it poetry. The fact that her favorite ‘album’ is Violet makes me fear the next album is going to be more mood/diary music. I know she always had big plans to be a poet but the people know her as a singer also good on her for babe dropping sportscruiser. It’s probably my favorite thing she’s ever written Edited April 20, 2022 by xXavril

I'm about to give in and listen. I'm sure I'll like it. I've heard clips here and there of some of the poems, & they sound nice.
Ice Cream Skies Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 The background music by Jack Antonoff is genuinely really wonderful as well.
HausOfGerard Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 It's not better than any of her musical albums outside of Lust for Death, but it's really gorgeous. My favorite three poems are Sportcruiser, The Land of 1,000 Fires and Quiet Waiter - Blue Forever.

Living Legend Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 I can only recommend listening to it. While on vacation last year I listened to it every day and it's so touching and heavenly. Tessa Di Pietro is my favorite.

Europe Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 IDK what to do with her poetry. The audiobook version is amazing because of her inflection and the emotion in her voice on piecese like Sportcruiser and LA Who AM I To love you, but the book itself...well I bought it and it has been sitting on my shelf since release but I am not particularly motivated to read it. IDK it just doesn't grab me and too much of it seems like just a stream of consciousness, thoughts put on paper without regard to form or meaning and that makes itt seem like she didn't put effort in them and there isn't much meaning to be found there.
