Mess. :skull:

The two singles showed a promising direction, but the whole album is so minimalistic it hurts, to the point that it sounds mostly like unfinished demos/ideas, that could have actually been good had they been executed more.

The best song here is 5D, but it still bothers me how it could have been WAY better with a different and more polished production. I'm sorry to say that I think this is her worst record, and she probably doesn't have it in her anymore.

One thing I also want to point out is how she was probably going for a Lost Highway Lynch's inspired soundscape, also in the lyrics, and at times I think she did a great job in creating this "on the road, alone at night, in love and heartbroken" kind of overall vibe, but were 3 minutes of nothing but crickets necessary at the end, in such a short album already?

ms. Li should start ASMR career at this point

Some interesting interviews.

She talks about how she feels EYEYE is her best work, why she went so minimal with the production, how psychedelic therapy influenced and inspired the record (particularly ayahuasca), what the future holds for her etc.

I bet she's testing out the waters then.

Anyway, just re-reading myself I think I actually sounded too negative when I do think it requires multiple plays as it can be a challenging listening at times. We'll see how it ranks in the end.

Well, she's missing out the most obvious of the inspirations here, Witness. From the title (Hey Hey Hey to EYEYE, how original) to the sound (u&i sounds IDENTICAL to Roulette).

Oh, and the hair also. Did anybody say Just Eat?

oof i'll be putting this on shortly and am kind of nervous. I really don't want her "last" (?) album to be her worst.

being emotional on Ü&I, just simply astonishing :cries: :clap3:

probably double check on lyrics for second times run, cant tell yet about album...

..................................................................................................................................

EDIT after second listen.

yeah thats not much going on over lyrics content, the purpose of album is psychedelic ambient music and pretty inconsistent result.

5D is grower and Ü&I remain superior for me. so much so better album nonetheless. :bird::lakitu:

this is definitely one of those “if you get it you get it, if you don’t then honestly i feel sorry for you” albums…

the meltdowns though :bibliahh:

i think the album is stunning, totally get what she was going for and she executed it well :clap3:

enjoyable album (You Don't Go Away, 5D, Over) but i kinda like that the critics see through this "concept"

i think that title with the movies would have fitted the album better considering it's a recurring theme on the album. some of the songs feel stretched (and i understand that its a cinematic decision but the album is titled differently) because she wanted its length to be 33:33, it's a kii that Spotify shows it as 33:37 :toofunny3:

I really like the album! It’s definitely way better than her last one. It’s very immersive and a bit experimental for her. My favourites are 5D and ü&I

Wait this is gorgeous! I definitely miss the bop-vibes of SSSS but the melodies on this are gorgeous and the sparse production doesn't bother me.  This is like a "laying on the beach pondering life" album.

y'all are so dramatic, you made me think this was going to be an ambient album or something :rip: the album is beautiful and feels like the true follow-up to INL

don't know if I'm listening to a different album or something, but this is thoroughly gorgeous.

This is what I expected after I Never Learn. I love this Lykke.

We had fun with SSSS, now it’s time to come back to normal :smitten:

You don’t go away is my fave so far

happy hurts, 5d, ü&i the early trinity

I had such low expectations but this is already one of my favorites this year :jonnycat:

I have some thoughts.. first of all I’ll say I love Lykke Li, I will always support her. I’ve been here since Wounded Rhymes era and will always probably stan anything she puts out (I mean unless she really is retiring). However, first of all I really didn’t even think this was that far of a step off from ssss. The production is still much more polished and even electronic I would say than her first three albums which, stylistically can blend together and sound like they were recorded very lo-fi at some points. Second of all, it’s one thing for Stans to do it, but it really turns me off when artists drag their own work (her w ssss). In one of the interviews she actually even said she would delete her whole discography aside from this album, INL, and I Follow Rivers. Idk if she meant the track I Never Learn or the whole album but 1) that’s very poor taste of her, 2) it feels like an FU to fans who love her work, and 3) how can you call yourself a perfectionist and basically a gatekeeper of your own work but then **** on everything you’ve put out seconds later. Her interviews make her sound very pretentious, with her name dropping Marina Ambrovic and talking about ayuhasca (however you spell it) every chance she gets. We get it, you tripped while making this album :toofunny3: I actually love her and I really like the album, some of y’all did the most on it in the past few pages. But I think she is kind of out of touch and she needs to either go a diff route and not make music anymore (which it seems like she’s doing) or realize there needs to be some middle ground. when she talks about it it really seems like she felt like she was making a modern The Wall or Dark Side of the Moon album, like this was some amazing boundary pushing record and she needs to come off her pedestal and relax a little bc this was not that
