I dont even stan Camila but it really blows my mind how many people pass this information around as fact even though there's zero record of her ever saying the-slur-in-question  stan twitter troll comments really did irreversible damage to ol' girl's reputation 

 

and it really is scary how in the age of social media such loaded and serious lies can be spread like wildfire

Um. Do you not remember the Tumblr incident? Where her Tumblr was found where she regularly used the n word? And she even did a horrible apology for it? All you have to do is google "Camila Cabello Tumblr" and you'll see news articles about it.

she didn't "regularly use the n-word", Tumblr works a lot like twitter where the majority of your page are re-tweets, and she "re-blogged" several jokes that were racially insensitive, she didn't write them herself. The jokes were ignorant and harmful ofc, but they weren't actually hateful. Not to mention it was 2012, and she was like 14.

 

I'm not saying it was okay, but when that's the only actual concrete dirt you have on someone, it feels a little ridiculous to be calling them a "full blown racist" at age 25 because of it... it almost feels like the site just need a socially-acceptable target, and this scandal gives people an irrefutable reason to bash someone they already didn't like in the first place.  and I say all of this as a poc myself who hates racists.

so if a non-black kid liked those jokes, made by black people themselves, that means they still hate black people 10+ years later? 

idk how old you were in 2012, but jokes like "run --- run" were rampant online, and were ignorant af and stupid, but nobody was laughing at that and thinking "hahahaha black people are so stupid"   as a mixed person myself, I vividly remember even the black kids in my grade at the time making KFC jokes too, because they were children. Was a middle school girl seriously supposed to look at the piglet meme and think to herself "woah, I cant re-tweet this, it's not for me" all on her own in 2012? At a time when the most popular youtubers openly said the word as part of their jokes with no repercussions?  

 

I'm not excusing the jokes themselves, because of course they're harmful and ignorant, but the way you all pretend this is a black & white situation, ignore the cultural context, and use it as evidence of her being racist over a decade later is very weird to me  maybe im just getting old, but I do believe context absolutely matters.

Well, their audiences are vastly different. Morgan Wallen appeals to white mid-America, who find no fault in saying the n word. In fact, they found him being "canceled by libtards" more of a reason to support him. Cardi's fanbase isn't gen z, for the most part either. Gen z has a lower threshold for cancelable offences. I don't think she's flopping because of her tumblr, but it certainly didn't help an already decaying career. Perhaps without the scandal she would've survived, but this touched every corner of her public persona, so it pushed her even further down.

first of all, im 3/4 Mexican and 1/4 black so you "clocking" a stranger about their own race is just weird. (Hell, the name Isaiah is literally predominantly black)

 

second of all, the use of the n word was in images, and none of the usage of the word was ever actually used in a racist way (even tho the word should've been used in the first place.)

 

It was a different time, a time where jokes like this were in the most beloved teen-movie of the century, and no-one cared:

I don't see any point in continuing this discussion, as we clearly take different stances, but I personally stand firm in saying that a middle schooler who laughed at these things over a decade ago shouldn't be branded as a racist adult 10 years later, when they've done absolutely nothing problematic since then, and have been nothing but vocal/supportive of BLM/black issues for 8 years now

Yeah this is all it really is. Most people irl probably don't even know about the tumblr incident tbh. She just didn't build a large enough fanbase, and didn't make good single choices in her debut era to sustain it long enough. And then by the time her second era started, people had moved on.
