Eóghan Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 What a perfect roster of winners Michelle Yeoh making history. I'm a bit bummed for Stephanie Hsu but still I'm happy for Jaime Lee Curtis, she did the best oscar campaign this year, effortless and funny. Also boy am I glad that Austin Butler face planted after leading every single list for the past 2 weeks
enchanted0 Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 The way Hong Chau deserved to win BSA with her performance in The Menu
Liafen Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Yeah the award for Most Entertaining/Best Oscar Campaign goes to Honorary Asian Jié Mi Li She was working iT from daytime shows to stealing SAGs, whew we love a relatable legend!
Liafen Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Also I don’t understand people bashing Jié Mi and saying Angela should’ve won since both gave a caricaturey performance. If we want to argue about who was deserving based on performance alone (and not diversity points-wise or career-wise) we should be discussing Condon, Hsu or Chau. Angela did nothing special tbh in a huge letdown of a movie from the MCU also Jié Mi collected her fair share of critics noms/wins iirc
Riot Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 A few stats have been broken btw: Brendan Fraser won Best Actor despite not being in a Best Picture nominee Cate Blanchett lost despite winning the Volpi Cup + BAFTA + Globe Angela Bassett is the first performer to lose Best Supporting Actress while winning the combo CC + Globe

Green Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Funny how 3 of the early acting frontrunners of this Oscar season were the ones that still won in the end, except for Michelle Williams for switching categories Early frontrunners: Brendan Fraser (Actor) M. Yeoh (Actress) Ke Huy Quan (S. Actor) M. Williams (S. Actress) Jei Mi Li When Michelle Williams switched most people thought one of the Women Talking actresses would win but in the end everything worked great for JLC and I'm fine with that because this was probably her only chance to win an Oscar at her age.
Green Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Angela's reaction was almost serving Samuel L. Jackson I honestly don't like Black Panther so I hope she gets better roles and maybe she could still snatch a Supporting Oscar in the future.
Feanor Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Whew, happy to see Legend Yeoh win over Cate in that complete dud that was TÁR. Time to pick better movies Miss Blanchett 2 hours ago, Saintlor said: Margot Robbie’s performance in Babylon completely ate up Michelle and Cate’s performances You spilled

Mordecai Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 I guess Cate's karma came back to bite when she decided to get involved in the Andrea Riseborough shenanigans Speaking of Andrea, she looked ill is she okay?

Dark Miracles Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 To think that God-tier performances like JJL in Hateful Eight, Uma in Pulp Fiction, Barbara Hershey in Portrait Of A Lady, Rachel Weisz in The Favourite, Michelle Pfeiffer in Dangerous Liaisons LOSE Best Supp Actress while completely unremarkable work from Laura Dern in Marriage Story and and JLC in the Matrix wannabe WIN
Liafen Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Cate losing had nothing to do with her mentioning Andrea, among others, in a speech, once. It had to do with: - Yeoh winning SAG, giving an emotional speech - which brillianty kicked off her campaign's last push that literally peaked during the voting period, and also brilliantly emphasized the urgency to award the first Asian and the second POC ever to win Lead Actress - the pure strength of Yeoh's vehicle - and despite Legend Blanchett's precursor accolades, an insanely tight race in the first place (and of course, Yeoh's deserving performance) Literally no one rode the wave better and none had a bigger wave to work with in the first place in the most crucial period. Except for Jié Mi Li Curtis, and we've seen how that turned out aswell.
keerbyriri Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 le epic marvel reddit movie sweeps lmao. Tar, a zeitgeist capturing movie snubbed with Cate giving arguably her greatest performance yet, show is a joke like always
Liafen Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Jié Mi deserved this just because of Freaky Friday alone

Cloudy Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 (edited) I think I actually got all 4 winners right I'm so glad Michelle won, but I'm almost as happy trout mouth didn't win best actor Also Angela looked like a sore loser. Glad she lost. Edited March 13, 2023 by Cloudy

Cate might take it Actor Fraser? No idea BSA I think Jié Mi might take it. She WORKED the last two weeks of the campaign. Condon is second and another likely. Bassett wont win Ke Huy has it locked obvi. Wait. Not me going 5/5. 6/6 if i count the BD prediction which I did not write down (last year I had 22/24 with two below-the-line misses) Edited March 13, 2023 by Liafen
