Green Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I love the BAFTA acting winners I'm glad they didn't go sheep mode with the frontrunners. Kerry is in the race too Barry Keoghan's win is one of my faves. He had the best acting performance of The Banshees Best Actor is between Austin Butler and the SAG winner. Farrell is done unless he wins SAG but I doubt it
Life Savers Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Cate the true sweep of the season, we love to see it

She’s not beating Angela at the Oscars and if she does the backlash will be huge But I’m shocked at Barry winning, I thought Ke Huy Quan would sweep. She's not winning but why would she get a huge backlash if she wins when she has the most acclaimed performance in the Supporting Actress category

Not all the precursors need to have the same winners Ke Huy Quan is still winning the Oscar for Supporting Actor.

Of course if Michelle Yeoh wins Best Actress then that would minimise it, but if both lose then that’d be a mess.
LastKiss Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Congrats to Cate BUT I need queen Michelle Yeoh to pull through at SAG and eventually the Oscar Like plissssss
G.U.Y. Gaga Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 this is what most Broadway looks like for me lol

Bradley, love him or hate him, bared his soul. And he probably wasn't even second in the race, Bale's caricature of a Dick Cheney was Probably the worst male Oscar race ever. Butler isn't even close as bad, and he's benefiting from the fact that everyone are first time nominees, and nobody really overdue there for Academy.

Vin Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Let's be serious. Cate Blanchett is clearly the Best Actress this year, especially compared to Michelle Yeoh's performance in "Everything Everywhere All At Once." That being said, The Academy should still give The Oscar to Yeoh to make history, create a television moment, et cetera. Imagine being boring and giving the Oscar to another White woman... who already has Oscars when Yeoh is right there. The silver lining is at least all of the women nominated are talented this year, unlike in previous years. We know who. ...Vin
family.guy123 Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Watched banshees today wow was it boring. also, is Ireland as dreary and hell-ish as the film industry seems to paint it? I swear every movie that takes place there is about people trying to get away or about how miserable it makes everybody

WildAmerican Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Super interesting BAFTA winners. They said **** it in the supporting categories, and confirmed the leading categories. Thinking Quan and Bassett still take the Oscar tho bc they're likely to win SAG which happens a lot closer to oscar voting and has some voter overlap.
WildAmerican Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 (edited) It's OVER for Yeoh and Farrell tho Farrell couldn't win when his costars both beat major frontrunners to win nn Edited February 20, 2023 by WildAmerican

The point is that if EEAAO is as strong as it looks- winning BP, BD, Supporting Actor, and potentially Editing alongside wins at SAG, DGA, WGA, CC, and atp maybe even PGA- her coming along isn't far-fetched. She has always been at the center of the film's passion and is the only other viable contender in that category. Now continue your here's how Top Gun can still win BP talk
Denyy Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Butler now being the frontrunner, I hate it here
Dark Phoenix Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I’ve made peace with the fact that Cate is getting the Oscar, Yeoh was great but did not made the same powerful performance that Cate did, I’m sorry if this will be her only chance/nomination but talent is talent is this is Cate’s third victory is because she’s very talented and gave a more solid performance. I’m ok with Butler getting BA but first Rami and now him?? It’s cheap now and I think that Brendan Fraser did a better job than him and Colin. Ke Huy can sit, Barry or Gleeson did a better job and it’s between Angela, Kerry or Hong Chau for BSA. Also it does feel like the BAFTAs are biased to British/Oz winners because Banshees and Elvis winning all those awards is too much, no variety or something.
