Dark Miracles Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 Cate been spending too much time in America and it's pulling a number on her. I think this may have been the hardest she's ever gone in awards season. Hope she elopes back to beautiful Australia soon to wash it off.
Hector Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 The tea that was spilled The way they took no prisoners with not just Riseborough, but Winslet & Diane Warren.

There is no way Gosling is getting nominated for playing Ken. Many acclaimed directors have films that don’t click with the academy and this will be one of them even if it’s good.
Kylizzle Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 Barbie will probably be very successful in the craft categories but there's no way it goes beyond that. Will Mario win animated feature is my question

Will Mario win animated feature is my question I don’t think that Mario could win, the Minions and Sonic movies haven’t won one just for the sake of being famous franchises and I don’t expect a 90min film of Mario from Universal to win and Super Mario games ain’t that deep or have strong plots/narratives. Spiderverse, Elemental, Wish and Spellbound feel stronger in that front.

If Elemental and Wish are actually good this is gonna be a competitive year to even get nominated which is exciting.

Campaigning rules • Riseborough voters were energized, they thought they were doing a good thing for the underdog. • Anne says actors do this all the time even with studios behind them. Standard operating procedure. • The campaigners know where the lines are drawn, and break them all the time. They all laugh at the Academy. • Pete says the main reason is that guilds and different groups have different rules and cross-membership, so it's impossible to follow different campaigning rules. • Diane Warren discussion. They don't hold back. Anne straight up calls it cronyism, Pete calls her friends cronies. • Pete puts 3-time-nominee J. Ralph in the same category as Warren, just less successful. • They laugh at Winslet overhyping Riseborough's performance. Actor • They agree it's a three-way race, with Nighy not being that farfetched. • Mescal has no shot. He is London on stage, can't campaign. • Fraser needs SAG, no BP nomination hurts him. • Butler can run away with it. Supporting Actress • They think if Bassett wins SAG, she is winning. They all agree it's a legacy award and that the speeches help her. • JLC is a legacy nominee. Supporting Actor • Quan is the runaway. • Voters loved Causeway. Quiet, naturalistic, well-directed, well-acted, Screenplay • Tom Cruise didn't campaign as hard as he could have. Not his style. • They think McDonagh has to win something, but say its EEAAO for its originality. BTL • All Quiet is winning International and Cinematography. • Elvis can carry the day. • Top Gun has Editing, EEAAO is too scruffy. Top Gun has a degree of complexity EEAAO doesn't. • Avatar is winning VFX. • Miranda's snub was a big shock. • Makeup is competitive, The Whale is ahead, but who knows. THe Batman only has Penguin. Pete says The Whale winning makeup and actor would be like Dalls uyers Club or Ed Wood. • If The Whale doesn't win Makeup, don't look for Fraser winning. • Production Design is a tough call. Elvis has the advantage by being a BP nominee, but Babylon has the advantage of likely winning score. All Quiet has a shot here. • Son Lux over Desplat is a sign that the music branch's tastes are changing. • If they love All Quiet, it can win these uncertain categories. • Naatu Naatu is their prediction, but they are uncertain. Quote Fabelmans is this year's TPOTD Does this mean Spielberg is winning Director?

family.guy123 Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Andrea admitted that the nomination caught her by surprise, but so did the backlash to it as well. “I think once I have time to process everything, I might understand it a bit better,” she shared with the outlet. She added about the debacle: “It’s been confusing, and it’s wonderful the film’s getting seen. I suppose it’s a really bright ray of light. When any of us engage in anything, we want for that piece of work to be absorbed in some way. You can’t control how people absorb it.” “Awards campaigning is as acerbically exclusive as it has always been. I do not yet know which measures will best encourage meritocracy. I’ve been working toward discovering them and will continue to.” Andrea said that the controversy kicked off an important and “necessary” conversation. “The film industry is abhorrently unequal in terms of opportunity. I’m mindful not to speak for the experience of other people because they are better placed to speak, and I want to listen,” she says. “I am grateful for the conversation because it must be had. It has deeply impacted me.” https://www.justjared.com/2023/02/15/andrea-riseborough-breaks-silence-on-controversial-oscar-nomination-for-the-first-time/ An Angelic saint. hausofdave Posted February 17, 2023 Author Posted February 17, 2023 If Cate wins BAFTA, SAG, and the Oscar, she will join Helen Mirren (The Queen) as the only leading actresses to win all of these + Golden Globe, Critics Choice, Volpi Cup, and the Trifecta Awards
fridayteenage Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 a film festival only has like 20 movies in it (several without a lead actress) but ok
Dark Phoenix Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 I just watched Pearl and felt like it was inferior to X and while Mia does an amazing job she’s giving demented Harley Quinn and not a big award acting performance like some outlets and users have mentioned. Surely she’s not above the Michelles or Cate and while I’ve not seen Danielle from Till I doubt that she did it better or than Viola Davis, maybe she was a long shot like 9-10th place but still it wasn’t enough her performance to warranty nominations.

Donquizote Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Queen Cate is going to take her 4th BAFTA this Sunday
hausofdave Posted February 17, 2023 Author Posted February 17, 2023 i reckon Deadwyler was above Viola, her performance drew more passion rather than the film as a whole
Liafen Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 whew Cate really is working overtime to secure that third Ozzie
