pigeon Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 Cannes programme is being announced today. Apparently there is a new Lynch coming.
X~MoviePoP Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 Just a reminder that emma stone should be OSCAR-LESS
Antisocialites Posted April 19, 2022 Posted April 19, 2022 Chan-wook and Kore-eda in the same year and the same competition
Donquizote Posted April 19, 2022 Posted April 19, 2022 Not buying Yeoh's hype. She will get nominated, but that's it me thinks
EnigmaticAndroid Posted April 19, 2022 Posted April 19, 2022 Predicting She Said to be the overhyped to the high heavens Oscar flop of the year Of course film twitter will say it's a masterpiece since it has their white fav in it Also, I have a hard time seeing Yeoh not win if nominated. Huge passion, in an artsy crowd-pleaser, likely to dominate critic circles, amazing reviews, stronger narrative than we've seen in the last few years, flexes a ton of acting muscles, probable Globe win, etc. At the very least, she and her film will be putting on a huge fight throughout the year.
ALittleGauche Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 Michelle Yeoh for the motherfckng win. The last non-white woman to win is Halle Berry from 2001. ?
Coma Baby Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 I don't really see it for Everything Everywhere and Yeoh for now. When was the last time something did well with nominations that came out early the year before? Get Out or something? And that was a proper cultural reset. They probably would have released a couple months later if they'd known how well it was gonna be received or sent it to a festival later in the year. It would be cool to see it pull through, though. A24 were probably putting their bets on the Aronofsky movie, J.Law for actress and I could see them sending the new Aster movie to a festival and trying to push it for awards this time around.
fridayteenage Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 the cultural reset of an asian female led film breaking THROUGH
Gui Blackout Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 We WILL be getting Miss Yeoh her Oscar, bet!
Donquizote Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Not a good look for Viola and her Oscar campaign since people are starting to see how overrated she is and that First Lady biopic is the last nail in the coffin

CODA is from Sundance which happened in January 2021. Parasite in Cannes in May 2019.

You have to go by the US theatrical or streaming release obviously that marketing coincidences with, which was August for Coda and October for Parasite. I think the last time someone won Best Actress for a movie that came out early-ish was Marion Cotillard (July). Still 4 months later than Everything Everywhere.
Antisocialites Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 EEAAO is obviously happening and it's getting a bunch of noms and possible wins.
LastKiss Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Michelle Yeoh is getting that Oscar or else we RIOT! Queen DESERVES not only for this incredible performance BUT for all the amazing work she has done and the racist hollywood has ignored!
fridayteenage Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 (edited) i mean, a nomination already would be historic. the only asian actress nominee is in the 1930s who lied about her identity so she wouldn't be pushed aside, like anna may wong who was passed over in favor of an oscar winning The Good Earth bad yellowface performance. Edited April 21, 2022 by fridayteenage
TheDreamer Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 I have a strong feeling that Yeoh will win and Everything Everywhere will be a heavy favorite for next year's Oscars. The same feeling I got when I said CODA could win Best Picture way before its SAG win I just can feel it!
hausofdave Posted April 22, 2022 Author Posted April 22, 2022 Yeoh needs a Stewart esque critics push coming fall, if she does, an Oscar nom should be within reach
X~MoviePoP Posted April 22, 2022 Posted April 22, 2022 everything everwhere all at once is horrible and deserves no noms. the acting was cringe and mediocre from Michelle, only the daughter gave a nuanced striking performance.
McNulty Posted April 22, 2022 Posted April 22, 2022 everything everwhere hype will die down in 1 month, there's no way it will get any noms at the Oscars.
