There are valid points on both sides IMO.

 

Fair IS the single and in many ways we just have to ride it out. No amount of complaining will change that. 

 

BUT...

 

The commercial performance (and discussion around it) is not only natural, but is also very important. I still don't feel enough stans digest how vital this period is for what will be the rest of Normani's trajectory.

 

In many ways, all the talk of the song being artistic expression and her being so personal is pointless. She HAS to deliver commercially to keep getting the type of budgets that give us videos like Wild Side and Motivation. This is a business. No label will throw money at her projects "just because" if there are no viable returns. Nor should they. Again, it's a business. 

 

I'm "choosing" to believe  the murmurs that her team are trying to create a perfect storm across a few formats heading into the album window. Fair doing it's thing (even nominally) on Urban A/C hopefully allows for her to come swinging (hopefully with a good feature) with the uptempo on Pop and mainstream Urban.

 

If there's "the" big single around the corner, it's a little risky dividing the attention with Fair (which I maintain is not even that good). But let's hope there's some method to the admitted madness (of releasing it).

I don’t know why y’all seem to think one single flopping is going to stop her budget. What do y’all think these brand deals are for? Where the label slacks, she could probably pick up as we saw with WS.
 

For this to be a site gossiping about the music industry, there sure is a lot you not aware of the current state of the industry. It’s literally in the pits. A number one can only sell what? 45K? If we go by some of y’all’s logic, then every artist needs all their budgets cut because they aren’t making back the money the label spends on their videos, promo, etc. In reality, the label is finding other ways to recoup and profit off their artist.
 

This is a business, but Normani has actually shown herself to be profitable to the label. She’s more profitable than the majority of the artist in that roster.

I’m sorry if you think I’m coming off sensitive because I’m really not. Also, I could turn around and say the same thing about you or anybody else on this site. People saw one person make one post and labeled them as having a meltdown. I spoke up in favor of that one person. Give me a break.
 

That whole trying to label somebody as an ass kissing Stan thing is beyond tired. Y’all need to stop that.  Some of you will be the first person to say y’all need to accept others opinions but get triggered when somebody doesn’t necessarily agree with you on certain topics. Just going to keep it real on where we’re at

They are going to put out the album regardless and just let it speak for itself and build her fanbase. There's nothing wrong with this type of plan. Has worked out well for a lot of urban based RCA artists like SZA and Doja.

I constantly don’t do anything. I barely even post. Most of the times I come on here and just read then leave. If y’all are able to voice your opinions, I should be able to do the same.
 

Valid concerns don’t bug me at all, but it’s the overly dramatic things like insinuating the girl will be drop just because a song the label probably didn’t have high expectations for didn’t meet some people’s own expectations. Nothing I have ever said was without reason in any of these threads. I share some of the same views with y’all regarding Normani’s career. Maybe I’m not as pessimistic as some of you, but I  don’t think that’s a crime.

 

If some of you don’t like what I say, then it’s like what Ms. Leaks said “If you don’t like, you don’t like it.”

Exactly and the advantage Normani has over let's say someone like SZA is that she has the history with pop radio due to 5H and her past collab hits. So whenever she feels like catering to pop again, it will be easier for her to get a hit there. Still hoping the supposed Calvin collab ends up being a single that way she has a traditional pop record on radio in addition to the uptempo coming which will likely be Rhythmic leaning (which hopefully they will push on pop as well).

 

Let's hope whatever casual urban fans she has will come through and stream on release week. I really think there's enough interest in her that a top 10 debut is still possible regardless if the uptempo smashes right away or not.
