I think this rollout has been far too lengthy, can’t recall the last time anyone dropped a song and video so far apart. I’ll take the Fair video and it seems like they will move with more speed on the uptempo release

I’m sickened by the accuracy. Omg this has so much going against it… including Normani herself :dies:

Lol what. Normani was easily the second most popular member in 5H. The song isn't performing because it isn't single-worthy.

She needs a reality check. Play the game and release songs the GP wants so that you can establish yourself. Then use the money and respect to experiment and put your sound out there. Doing that now is commendable but it'll be sad when the well runs dry.

probably 3 month til urban radio top 20 until then...

Yeah uh, this is DEFINITELY not true :deadbanana4: Lauren was by far the second most popular member when the group was still together. During X Factor and their EP era, Dinah was in a solid third, but I think you can make the argument Normani switched into third after BO$$. But no way was Normani ever Top 2 when the (five-member) group existed. She only emerged as the second most popular member after the band split, when she got a big hit with Love Lies and the other three girls never had anything take off commercially.

I agree that the "let's come up with a list of excuses for why her album might do badly" thing is tacky, but no need to counter it with blatantly false info :toofunny2:

I highlighted what I was agreeing with (that wasn’t one of them) and what I highlighted… is FACTS, I’m afraid :rip:

“ less than 10 mil Insta followers, no TTH Spotify payola or out the gate radio deals, no longterm solo hits, no #1s under her belt, R&B music, minority disadvantage“

I think that as soon as the Fair MV come out, things will pick up

I think this approach is actually pretty excellent. Let’s watch this space. And those of y’all who haven’t connected with this song yet… I feel bad for y’all.

Some people don’t connect with songs until it is doing well commercially. Community validation.
This is a great song. The arrangement. The lyrics. The delivery. All the right notes. It will do well and it’s clear the label is taking the slow burner approach.

people can disagree. Lots of people have wrong opinions.

(edit: wait, I meant to quote the person above you lol)

Ummm. You clearly didn’t follow 5H lol. It wasn’t until she went on DWTS that her and Lauren started to be the most popular and by then 5H as a whole was losing funding by Epic. Up until their last era, she was very much the least popular member of the band and I doubt anyone thought she would be the second most successful member of the band (so far) ahead of Lauren who still has more social media followers than her.

and that's what's gonna happen with "fair" its gonna pick up and then suddenly people are gonna catch on.

I mean I was half kidding with the list, but lezbereal unless she has a #1 song at the same time as the album drops, I don’t think it’ll be that shocking for Mani to not do big album numbers & if that’s what y’all are expecting, I think y’all need to manage those expectations :eli:

Yea, I can still listen to this song literally every day and it still hasn’t gotten old. If the video is giving what it needs to give, the potential is still very much there for this to blow up.

I wholeheartedly agree that people will wait for the gp to get behind this song before they admit to like it. Fair definitely has big potential which is why I think her label isn’t stressing at all with the debut. Imagine how many ppl are gonna watch/share the fan video every day because they’re in it! This is the best rollout she’s had imo and I’m very excited for the coming weeks.

The song is still excellent and I'm happy for her that she put out something she's really proud of... but those of you who are holding out hope it'll catch on might be underestimating just how much it's flopping on streaming right now :deadbanana4: Based on its position on the Pop chart, it's probably outside of the Top 1000 overall on Apple Music. And even with over 2 million radio audience now, it's probably outside of the Top 500 on Shazam (again, based on its Pop position). The music video would have to be absolutely game-changing, or it would need to massively blow up on TikTok all of a sudden, for it to become a hit anywhere outside of the Urban radio chart.

I've made my peace with the fact that this song bombed commercially and was something Normani wanted to release for personal reasons. You guys should really try not to get your hopes up for any sort of commercial success nn

Random songs blow up out of nowhere all the time so I won’t lose hope :lakitu:

Usually when artists don’t drop a music video it’s because they don’t expect big numbers :celestial2:

Normani‘s music videos always take forever regardless. She usually films them well in advance to drop the same week as the single, but Waves took like 3 (?) months and I don’t think she was expecting big numbers there either lol. Normani just takes her sweet ass time just because…

Any chances she performs at BBMAs?

Awards will hopefully coincide with the uptempo's release so let's hope RCA pulls through and books her that stage.
