What I don't understand is Normani being "afraid" at this stage. At this point what's there to be afraid of?

 

3 of her last 4 releases bubbled under including Fair, her song with Ariana/Nicki, and her song with Megan. There is an around the clock social media hate train because of Nicki fans who picked up where Camila fans left off. Every black website is infested with obsessive haters. Most pop websites too. She's lost all her momentum and has been unable to get an album out in four + years. Her fans, and arguably her own team, don't take her music career seriously anymore.

 

Maybe coming on the heels of Love Lies I'd understand her being nervous, but now it's like there's nowhere to go but up. I just don't get it.

Maybe it's the fact that they've waited for so long. If she had put out a four-track EP alongside "Waves", and then another EP shortly after "Motivation", and done a cute club or theatre tour in fall 2019/early 2020 (before COVID obviously), like all the fans wanted her to and thought she would be doing, then right now she'd be in a vastly better position. She'd have enough songs released for a full set-list, for starters. A more solid fanbase. We would understand the need to get things just right for the debut album, in this day and age it's pretty common for artists to release mixtapes and EPs for years before a proper official debut album, just look at the Kid LAROI or H.E.R. But no, instead it's been one single per year (literally!) and no concrete news about an album or even an EP.

 

So now the expectations are sky-high because surely the wait is worth it.....right?

i think they wanna go this mega-star route and not do this but this would've been SO appropriate.

 

idk i think normani should be giving music non stop at this point. but i still won't give up but i def think this all should be handled differently.

Yeah I'm not sure how she didn't realize this. If she had delivered a mediocre album back in 2018/2019 (along with a tour, performances, and just more content in general), it wouldn't have been such a big deal. Now she basically has to release a masterpiece, which I don't see happening tbh. Wild Side and Fair are both great songs but she's not pushing any boundaries with either of them. And judging by Fair's performance, she hasn't really even grown her fanbase... she's honestly put herself in a terrible position but I'm looking forward to seeing how they move forward with everything.

If she released an album full of Motivations I wouldn’t have been mad at all because at least it was something to dance to. This song is just boring. I need something uptempo again. For an artist who incorporates tons of dancing in her performances it really doesn’t make sense that she’s releasing slower songs. The uptempo R&B lane is wide open.

Apparently she does have uptempo R&b songs on the album . Fair was just a different flavor that she wanted to give people to show her range.

My main issue is that when Wild Side came out she said she needed “one more song” to finish the album…yet here we are
