Ok now I’m starting to believe that June 17 date. Lizzo is releasing on July 15 and I’ve noticed that their releases are weirdly synchronized. Wild side released July 15 exactly a month later Rumors August 13

Then it happened again

Fair March 18 about a month later About That Time April 14.

And the rumored date for Normani’s album is exactly a month before Lizzo.

That's funny. Wonder why it's happening... Inb4 they're touring together, hence why aligning their releases :duca:

It's nice that she got a new publishing deal - and a really good one. I see no reason why she wouldn't sign with them. They've managed A List artists.

I’ve only heard about Hipgnosis from all the artist catalogs they’ve purchased over the last few years. I didn’t realize they did regular publishing deals too. Get that bag though queen!

I wish. Latto is opening for Lizzo’s tour. Unless they plan to add one more performer to the billing, then we might need to hope for a different A-lister to ask Normani to join.

Shakira sold Hipgnosis her catalogue in January 2021, they sent her to work on her new album with Hipgnosis Songwriters. She released 'Don't Wait Up' back in July and another song this month and her album is still nowhere to be seen.
what if they send Normani back to studio to work with their songwriters?

I don't know what Shakira's situation is, but generally speaking I don't think publishing companies can really do that. It's the label that has control over what music gets recorded, the publishing company just manages the intellectual property rights associated with the music. RCA would have to be the ones who decide that Normani should be going back to the studio.

djfghkd sorry I checked the notification while I was working and then forgot about it later :monkey:

I guess her deal with Sony was expiring and Hipgonis offered her a better one? According to Billboard, she's one of the biggest artists Hipgonis has signed in the last few years, so I imagine they probably gave her a better revenue-sharing deal than Sony was giving her.

As for why she wouldn't sign with S10, I'm completely speculating here but it might have been a conflict of interest thing. Either Brandon wasn't comfortable pushing her to S10 when he's supposed to be neutrally acting in her best interests, and/or Normani herself decided that she didn't want to put all of her eggs in one basket with him.

This is all so true now that I think about it. Thank you for responding, now I can enter my @WheresJay industry insider era. :cm:

Side note: Is there still a chance she performs at the BBMAs? I simply haven’t seen anything indicating she’s been rehearsing, but we could be pleasantly surprised. :cm:

EDIT: I want to add I’m 80% sure she’s not doing BBMAs given Sean Bankhead  (her choreographer) hasn’t been doing rehearsals and is relaxing a lot lately from what I see on Instagram.

Five things (1 positive)

1. Her glam at the met gala was stunning!

2. Fair is the first co-write she's released under the Hipgnosis publishing deal. (Not sure if that bodes well but the sample size is small)

Publishing info popped up in the BMI song repertoire a few days ago.

3. No, Hipgnosis is not bigger or more global than Sony/ATV  Lmao (which deleted her artist/songwriter page months ago).

Sony/ATV has the single biggest share of publishing rights of all publishers WW.  In comparison, Hipgnosis is going around raising money to buy select writers' catalogs. They're not on the same scale. Although, she was in a joint deal with Stellar Songs and Sony ATV. Which is how she got the Sam Smith collab... however, last year Stellar helped Sam negotiate a new publishing deal so Sam left Sony/ATV too to sign with Warner Chappel publishing.

4. After noticing she wasn't with Stellar/Sony ATV I thought maybe she signed with Starrah's new publishing company 3:02.

Billboard recently published that Starrah is executive producing Normani's album. When I saw in BMI that Normani was with Hipgnosis, I figured there might still be a link with Starrah (co-wrote Wild Side). Sure enough Starrah is on Hipgnosis's board of advisers and Starrah's manager Nick Jarjour is its global head of song managementI have no doubt she got connected through them.

Negatives: Sony/ATV was under the same parent company, Sony, as her label so there was double incentive to push her songs because Sony companies double dipped on her share of publishing while owning her master recordings. Sony/ATV is more powerful. Positives: She's no longer in a joint publishing deal between two separate companies. Maybe in a single deal the publishing split is better, but there might be an opportunity cost. See: negatives.

This all makes logical sense and the BMI thing is important. Fair being her first drop under them bodes well for a new single dropping soon, since the publishing announcement is tracking late behind whatever rollout is going on behind the scenes.

The announcement was basically a formality, she’s already been working under the new publishing deal based on what you’re saying. :duca:

This Starrah tea is HOT and I think her executive producing makes the most sense. Now I’m even more excited to hear this album, Normani knows how to build behind the scenes and on the scene hype.:duca:
