Colin is so freaking cute, we have no choice but to stan. I really admire how many plot-lines they are juggling without these episodes feeling overstuffed. Curious to see how they all progress :jamming:

I love the not so subtle real life footballer moulds they’ve used for certain characters, lol

Jamie based off Jack Grealish

Roy based off Roy Keane (all the way down to Roy Kent actually being a placeholder name for the character they decided to keep)

Zava based off Zlatan Ibrahimovic

I’m sure there’s others I’ve not picked up on

Ok, dreadful, dreadful, dreadful episode today

Spoiler

Genuinely awful all round today. I’m too tired to dive in to a full critique, but…

Richmond (a newly promoted side) going on a 3-match losing streak after their brilliant start to the season would simply not ever result in a manager being sacked so the fact that Higgins/Rebecca had that conversation just makes no sense.

The Zava thing is just COMPLETELY ridiculous and his presence in the show is ultimately pointless if this is how he leaves? What incentive does Jamie now have to train with Roy if he’s left the team and how do they carry that storyline on? They were seemingly setting up an opportunity for their characters to bond and for Jamie to develop, but now there’s no reason for that to continue so how do they keep that going?

Keeley being bi is not a surprise, but it feels VERY MUCH like “shoehorn a female love interest” in to the conversation. To do it so flippantly at the same time they introduced the Colin storyline too, just seems like maybe they saw the noise about lack of queer representation and are now just scrambling to throw things together. Queer representation deserves better than this, but it’s nice to see more than one queer relationship co-existing.

The Rebecca storyline this season really isn’t doing much for me, either. She deserves to have her character defined by literally anything other than men yet it seems that every and any storyline they have for her is based around either Ted, Rupert or Sam.

This entire episode was a disaster and really felt like they just cobbled together any old **** and pieced it together to make an “episode”

Probably the first time I’ve watched an episode of this show and finished it feeling truly disappointed

I have no idea why it took me so long to start watching this show. So good. The character development and growth here almost matches Schitt's Creek. Roy is my favorite through S2 (gonna start S3 soon) and I hope Jamie continues on the right path. It's honestly hard to pick a fav sometimes.

The standout episode was definitely the funeral one.

Now for the rat. How ungrateful. 😒

All of this, I was genuinely baffled by last week’s episode. Haven’t seen yesterday‘s yet.

Yesterday’s episode was slightly better, but this entire season has just felt a little off for me compared to s1 & s2

Agreed. First clunker of an episode.

Honestly, the two most annoying things were Ted losing and losing games and not taking it seriously. I have the opposite opinion of you in that they should consider sacking him when all he does is crack jokes during a 7-game-slide.

I also find their treatment of Barbara annoying. Yes she's a stuffy office type but Keely's decision-making just shows how little she knows about running things. And yes, the Jack storyline is bland.

I haven’t watched this week’s episode just yet, but I’ve been thinking lately that taking Keeley out of the club and putting her in a different work setting has been one of the biggest flaws of this season, it almost completely removes her character from the Ted Lasso universe and I’ve found it really hard to invest in her storyline this season.

This week’s epsiode

Spoiler

Not the worst episode of the season by any stretch of the imagination, however one thing that really bothers me is the pacing of S3. It just feels like they’re trying to open too many simultaneous storylines and not giving them any room to grow. Almost as if they’re treating social issues as a tick box exercise per episode to prove how socially conscious the show is. The problem with that, though, is you don’t allow space to fully develop the storyline or give it the appropriate weight and attention.

The storyline with Keeley, for example, is an important and relevant one… but I guarantee you it’ll never be mentioned again. The dialogue in the dressing room between the team felt VERY forced and a little obtuse. Almost like they’re saying “hey we’re making a point about society here!!!” There’s just no subtlety to it at all. It’s like they’re trying to wrap up each episode with a lesson about society, but it feels very inauthentic.

I’d have much, much rather they picked one or two storylines (Colin and Sam) and spent more time developing those arcs rather than trying to cram so many different things in. Zava? I’m left wondering what the point of his character was. Shandy? Again, I’m confused as to why her character existed? Even Barbara, I’m just not sure of her purpose.

At the moment I’m really starting to lose hope that they’ll be able to tie everything together for a satisfactory ending. I am, at least, looking forward to next week where they’ll be developing Colin’s storyline further and also developing his relationship with Isaac.

Episode 9

Spoiler

A much better episode than some of the previous ones, but I still have so so so many issues with this season as a whole.

Jack has now seemingly disappeared and I’m left wondering what, exactly, was the point of her character and her relationship with Keeley? They seemed to hint at Keeley neglecting her friendship with Rebecca (ignoring her phone call after Rebecca got bad news from the doctor, ditching her to go to Iceland)… at least with that, they hinted that Jack’s presence had a purpose but they’ve seemingly ignored that angle almost immediately. I’m just… really baffled? Her character hasn’t driven the story forward at all and now, just like Zava, she’s just inexplicably gone and it feels like wasted screen time.

Speaking of Rebecca.. what on earth is going on with that psychic reading storyline? They made a big deal about the matchbook.. nothing has seemingly happened with that, apart from one small scene where Ted had the same matchbook. Then she had that moment in Amsterdam where she was soaking wet in the canal.. that’s something the psychic predicted but Rebecca has seemingly not acknowledged that? Despite having a near meltdown over the matchbook?

I’m just so painfully confused by some of the choices the show has made this season. There are far too many disjointed storylines that are not coming together the way they did in S1 and S2. Even the Nate storyline… he’s become so far removed and detached from the rest of the show, it’s almost like watching another show altogether when they air his scenes.

I’m also very confused by the show’s decision to not actually explicitly show Colin coming out to the rest of the team? I had to rewind and rewatch the entire scene again because I was SO confused and wasn’t sure if the team knew he was gay or not.

I REAAAAALLY want to love S3 as much as I did the first two, but there are just so many things that I’m not buying in to. The dialogue has become so much worse, too. I saw someone tweet that this show is written like a bunch of pre schoolers writing an after school special and honestly that’s probably pretty apt. Every scene being a “teachable moment” just feels so clunky to watch. It’s just not… how real people talk.

I did, however, really enjoy the conclusion of the Colin/Isaac storyline and was glad to see a happy resolution. I just hope that they don’t decide to now just completely ignore it like they’ve done with so many things this season.

Side note: they’re clearly foreshadowing Roy taking over as Richmond manager at the end of the season when Ted inevitably goes back to Kansas

S3 was easily the weakest but still had some bright spots. Mainly Jamie. Completely fumbled the Nate redemption and other weird choices, but in the end it was a fitting Ted Lasso finale. No way this is the end end with the way some things were left in those final scenes.

This hasn’t been advertised as the series finale / announced officially as the last season has it?

Nate should not have been forgiven, or allowed back into the team. What a joke.

I think everyone expected him to eventually get to that point, but they rushed it way too fast so the disconnect was very apparent.

A cute finale but it was all so sudden. Weird that Apple didn’t properly announce it in advance
