KFC Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Not a spoiler but I'll tag it just in case Spoiler Not a SINGLE mention of the events of Secret Invasion ajsjjdjfh. I was at least expecting a throwaway line about the Skrulls still on Earth? 1 1
KFC Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Anyways! I really enjoyed the movie. I was a bit nervous because Monica's actress is definitely the weakest of the three but she delivered what she had to. That scene was a little bit much for me but at least it ended quickly.
Gogetonthebus Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 I thought this was really fun and had the energy of the early Marvel films. The biggest issue is that you can absolutely see the seams and scars from where Disney CHOPPED the film in post. The movie is 10/10 in the scenes with the three leads as the focus, but then it has to do the Marvel thing where it suddenly jumps to a new, random setpiece. There's very clearly a story and vision from Nia DaCosta somewhere in here, but it's never allowed to just gel in place. Iman Vellani is a STAR 1
Hephaestus Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 This might sound weird to most considering all the critiques and backlash this movie has gotten, but I'm telling you it's among the best stuff they've released in Phase 4/5. It's on the shorter side, but not a single minute is wasted and the story is tight. Great performances from the leads, with Kamala being the standout of the trio, and from the rest of the cast (with the villain probably having being the weakest, but even then it was actually fine). I loved that the story had actual stakes and a deep connection to Carol as a character, made everything feel more real. VFX was great and action scenes were inventive and beautifully choreographed (again, some of the best in the last two phases). Bittersweet ending but super interesting ending and post credit scenes, can't wait to see those explored. 1

Spoiler Nnnn This was originally supposed to come out before Secret Invasion, and I guess they didn't even bother to reshoot to try and make it fit. A kiiii Another spoiler Spoiler The brief sapphic tease between Carol and Valkyrie 1

The Man Who Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 This was so good like I knew it would be. That post-credit scene has me SHOOK! What are people referring to when they say “that thing”? - as I can’t think of any part of the movie that’s a stain? Unless you’re referring to… Spoiler The singing part? As I thought that was a kii! Did anybody else cackle when… Spoiler Carol was in the middle of singing / dancing and it cut to a shot of Monica and Kamala. I was dying at Monica dancing! 1
Danny789 Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 The two scenes everyone is complaining about were great and not anything James Gunn wouldn’t do and get praised for. 1 2
Symmetra Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 This was so ******* good . I do have a question Spoiler Wouldn’t Monica being in another reality(universe?) cause an incursion? Also is she in 838 universe? 1

Also there is some connection, a small one Spoiler The emperor of the Skrull was named in secret invasion and was here. He was the skrull leader with the crown that dar Ben made a peace treaty with. They also named that refuge camp in the show, and giah was talking about it. but yeah other then that they didn’t mention how the whole world is apparently dealing with skrulls and vigilantes in the street💀 wish we spent a little more time on earth to see how that unfolded

But this is genuinely some of the best looking marvel stuff. It’s actually insane how much the internet is determined to make this fail, when in reality it’s one of Marvels better Recent entires. 😆 just from an action Family comedy stand point alone. It’s Amazing 2
stevenisFADING Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 this was SO good. Iman Vellani is a star. I loved her in Ms. Marvel and here as well. Also that mid-credits scene. whew everyone was GAGGED. I got chills. LOL. 1

It also worked so well because… Spoiler Carol is quite an awkward and closed off character, so the contrast of her going from that to singing and dancing was hilarious. If another character like Thor had done it, it might have still been funny, but nowhere near as impactful because he’s already a comedic character and it wouldn’t feel out of character for him to do it. Another thing I didn’t mention in my other post is how well these 3 ladies worked together. They had such great chemistry that it actually made me wish we could have several movies with them as the leads. Monica really surprised me because I didn’t realise she also had the chops for comedy. I might have to go and watch this for a second time as I’m already suffering from that post-MCU cinema experience depression. 1

Gorjesspazze9 Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Oh I forgot to mention how dope the entanglement moments were. Now that’s Teamwork
ainadalkaz Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 saw this yesterday... now I understand why it's getting lukewarm reactions. it is very... mid. like, good mid - better than MoM, LaT & Quantumania for sure - but still mid. fun little popcorn movie, but not much more than that. it will do well on streaming I think. vfx & cgi looked very slick for the most part (minus some very obvious green screen but that's a given atp), so I'm happy about that (the budget is still insane though). all the switcheroos were super fun to watch! so at least there is some rewatchability there. Kamala and her mom stole the show, such excellent additions to the MCU! now Lashana Lynch, on the other hand, has been getting the short end of the stick ever since she was introduced I read the demo for this movie skews male, which is one of its biggest downfalls too bad I had the post credits scene(s) spoiled way before watching the movie, I would've GAGGED at that mid-credits scene but they still fail to make me excited, Spoiler especially the Kate Bishop one. I loved it, but atp we're gonna have to wait until like 2028 to even see Young Avengers at least there will be some pay off with X-men next year, but I have a feeling Binary and Monica will be nowhere to be seen 1

Blue. Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 I went to see This yesterday and I kinda loved it? It was the most fun I had with the MCU since the Spider-Man movie, Iman is amazin g and absolutely the new heart of the MCU. The only thing I disliked was the villain, very weak and how comes that the two Captain Marvel movies ended up having shitty villians now 1
ATRL Moderator Ampersand13 Posted November 11, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted November 11, 2023 Ugh, really wanted to see it this weekend but I don't think I'll get the chance to. Going to try either Monday or Tuesday (I assume it's losing Dolby to Hunger Games so I want to see it before that happens) 1
All Guns Blazing Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 (edited) I saw it this morning and found it to be entertaining. The 3 leads had good chemistry together and I liked how they worked together as a team. I'm glad they added Kamala's family to the movie as I found them to be the best part of the Ms. Marvel Show and thought they added humor to the movie without if been tryhard/cringy. The villain I felt was weak and I think if they had made the movie 15 minutes longer, they could have used it to explore her backstory more. Spoiler - I read on a leak on reddit about the musical & flerkens segments and was expecting to hate them but they didn't throw me off the movie, so I'm fine with them. - The CGI for Beast was better than I expected and i'm interetsed to see what route they go with the alternate universe Monica is in - If Kamala is a part of the young avengers, I don't understand why they hinted at her being a mutant unless she will be a part of both groups? Gorjesspazze9 Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 (edited) Not the Marvels getting dragged in Box office when it’s better then most phase 1,2,4, & 5 Movies. But I guess we all did see this coming. Oh well, still think it’s a major step up for the MCU recently. Can’t believe the YouTube reviewers are calling it the worst marvel movie ever like what? Monica’s fight scenes still go hard. And can’t wait to see what they do with Spoiler Kate Bishop & X-Men. I don’t know how this is any different or worse then Guardians 2, Spider-Man Far From Home, Ironman 2, Thor the dark World, Multiverse of Madness, Antman & the wasp, ect. This is a great Captain Marvel sequel🤷♀️ I just think people have revisionist history about the other 30 MCU films when saying marvel lost its magic. Cuz this is more MCU like then what a lot of directors have been serving. Even with good films like Guardians 3 and Wakanda forever. Ok rant over. Hope the final box office numbers are better, so these box office Reddit nerds can get out of my DM’s talking about a movie they haven’t seen and have no intention on watching. It’s insane behavior to be a grown adult so invested on a media that they claim they don’t care for anymore. 😆 Edited November 11, 2023 by Gorjesspazze9 1
