FF VII Remake experience:

At chapter 4 now and slowly understanding the mechanics better, though im still not warming up to it like I did to FFXVI. I don't know, the setting being literally slumbs kills the vibe for me. I loved how radiant FFXVI or FFXII looked, the landscape blew me away, whereas VII lacks in that department (at least for now).

I do appreciate tho that the battle system requires more tactics than FFXVI

Yeah definitely :crown:

The beauty of Final Fantasy is that every mainline game is completely independent. It's not like Marvel.

Yeah that one is total anti-fantasy pro-industrial. It's the most popular FF title.

Spoiler

Personally I never liked it.

There's on thing that really bothered me in the game

Spoiler

Jill showed Physically NO sign of the curse's progression during the beach scene. With how the game exaggerated how weak her body had become because of the curse, you'd think she'd be half-stone by then. I guess japanese developers are still afraid to put physical flaws in their female leads.

Why the **** did my phone notify me of this

Why does this world hate me

Ok, so im now in chapter 9 of FF VII Remake and I'm starting to understand why many people really love it, also compared to XVI. While XVI had the prettier world, the incredible visuals and insane boss battles, VII-Remake definitely has the upperhand in character development and strategy. The game forces you to constantly reevaluate your gear, the materia you're using, how to approach a battle. Its much trickier, which makes it more fun than going into a battle knowing you're going to win anyway. XVI definitely couldve incorporated weaknesses, immunities etc to force the player to rotate between the different eikons used.

Also, the character relationship building is much better. The conversations between Cloud and Aethril (?) are so so cute. Jill really feels lifeless in comparison and so does Clive tbh.

So yeah, im definitely starting to enjoy it more and more while still trying to perfect the battle system

This game has been eliciting so many clickbait/ragebait articles like this :skull: Which I guess is just the state of a lot of modern videogame discourse, but still... this game getting it extra hard.

Personally this is my fave FF since 12, so am happy ignoring all of it :ducky:

FFXVI definitely has its faults and it's been pointed out here already so I won't bother repeating. That said, I still REALLY enjoyed the game and consider it one of my favourites in the series now.

In other news, my copy of the soundtrack is in shipping process :duca:

This. I know it would make sense with this game story but the eikon switching lowkey could have been character switching as well.

loving the story though

This game really does feel like grown up Kingdom Hearts 2 lol, especially the combat!

Finally finished the game (I've been busy), and not me almost crying during the final scenes. :chick3:

I really grew to love this cast, so I hope there is a sequel.

I really REALLY want to do my second playthrough already but I'm waiting for the holidays :weeps: Something about this game screams Christmas season for some reason lol

How does this compare to 15 in terms gameplay and playability? 15 was so meh at times.

Finally finished the story last night and will probably go back and do the rest of the sidequests. This is the best mainline title since 12 (I love 14, but consider it its own thing for obvious reasons). Yeah there are some obvious flaws, but the combat is amazing, the quality of the cutscenes is beyond what anyone else is doing this gen, and the eikon battles are mind-blowing.

I feel like they were on the right track pulling Game of Thrones, and a few other reference points and mixing them with Final Fantasy, but it never came together seamlessly and felt awkward. They took a big swing and didn't hit it, but I can appreciate the core idea.
