JGibson Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 This thread focuses on the happenings of the 2021-22 NHL season. The Tampa Bay Lightning repeated as defending Stanley Cup champions. Owen Porter went #1st overall in the 2021 NHL Draft, selected by the Buffalo Sabres. Jérémy Lauzon was selected 1st overall in the Expansion Draft from Boston by the Seattle Kraken. After a COVID-shortened season of 56 games that were confined to division-only play that necessitated realignment of the divisions due to the US/Canada Border closed to non-essential travel for most of the season, the full 82-game schedule and normal divisional alignments are back. Also, arenas are expected to open to full capacity. Certain arenas could be under mask mandates. Certain arenas will likely have a COVID vaccine and/or negative test mandate to gain entry. The NHL will have a Winter Olympic pause from February 7th to 22nd in 2022. The NHL All-Star Game, which was cancelled last year due to the COVID pandemic, is back on in Vegas as the last event prior to the Olympic break, to be held on the weekend of February 4th and 5th. The Winter Classic is back after a one-season hiatus due to the COVID pandemic, with the same opponents that would've played the 2021 game: the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild at Target Field. The Seattle Kraken make its debut in the NHL, making it a 32-team league. As a result of the Kraken's arrival, the Arizona Coyotes head to the Central Division, meaning each division has 8 teams. JGibson Posted April 14, 2022 Author Posted April 14, 2022 Looks like the St. Louis Blues will make the playoffs.
JGibson Posted April 21, 2022 Author Posted April 21, 2022 The Blues made the playoffs. The 8 Eastern Conference teams have locked in the playoff spots, with the only thing left to play for is seeding.
JGibson Posted April 27, 2022 Author Posted April 27, 2022 The Blues 16-game point streak ended in a 4-3 loss to the Avs last night.

JGibson Posted May 20, 2022 Author Posted May 20, 2022 Toronto just cannot hold a series lead to save their life.
JGibson Posted May 24, 2022 Author Posted May 24, 2022 Blues blow yet another 1-0 lead and lose 6-3 to fall into a 3-1 series hole against the Avs. The Blues better win Wednesday, or their season is done. As for Nazem Kadri, he scored a hat trick. I REALLY f**king hate that guy with a fiery passion. Jordan Binnington's injury changed the series.
JGibson Posted May 26, 2022 Author Posted May 26, 2022 The Blues kept the series alive, after falling to a 3-0 hole and a 4-3 one with less than a minute to go against the Avs, manage to go to OT and win it 5-4.
JGibson Posted May 28, 2022 Author Posted May 28, 2022 The Blues had their hearts broken, as they conceded the series winner with 5 seconds left in regulation, as Darren Helm scored it to give the Avalanche a 3-2 win to wrap it up in 6. The Blues had a pair of 2 1-goal leads and coughed them up. Colton Parayko's delay of game call was very costly.
JGibson Posted June 5, 2022 Author Posted June 5, 2022 Tampa Bay Lightning's 3-peat bid is being seriously tested, as they are trailing 2-0 to the New York Rangers. Colorado Avs are one win away from clinching a Stanley Cup final spot.
JGibson Posted June 7, 2022 Author Posted June 7, 2022 The Western Conference representative for the Stanley Cup Final is set, as the Colorado Avs swept the Edmonton Oilers. This keeps the trophy drought intact for Canadian-based teams that stretches back to 1993. They await the 2x-defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers series winner.
JGibson Posted June 12, 2022 Author Posted June 12, 2022 The Pat Maroon 4-peat bid is on, as the Lightning come back from a 2-0 series hole to win in 6. The Lightning's Threepeat bid is still on. As a Blues fan, I say go Tampa Bay threepeat (and Pat Maroon 4-peat)! Hope Brian Elliott gets his ring too.
JGibson Posted June 27, 2022 Author Posted June 27, 2022 The Tampa Bay Lightning's 3-peat bid is over, as the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup in 6 games. The Avs lost just four games all postseason (2x to the Blues and 2x to the Lightning).
