Hogwarts Legacy (2023) | PS4/Xbox One versions out!

Okay so I've played for around 12 hours and here are my first impressions:

- Graphics-wise the game is STUNNING. Hogwarts is GORGEOUS and so are Hogsmeade and the surrounding areas.

- Even though I'm against sim based system, I think this is one of the few games that would benefit a lot from a good affinity system. A missed opportunity if you ask me.

- I haven't played enough because I've spent most of the time doing side quests and flying around lmao. Flying feels amazing and exploring is nice. The world feels bigger than it actually is.

- I've read that there is a lack of bosses and the variety of enemies is poor - I'm not talking about main story bosses because I don't think I've fought any of them yet besides those stone knights.

The only thing similar to a boss I've come across in the wild is that big red spider.

It would be amazing if the game had certain bosses in certain parts of the map. And given the amount of creatures in the HP world, they could have come up with so many ideas to make either bosses or different levels of enemies.

- Difficulty and level system feel weird. Like I'm doing quests that require at least level 5 but I'm already level 20 lol. Anyway, I'm not playing in hard mode and I've still died a few times (because I'm clumsy af LMAO).

Nah I think required levels are too low.

By the time I unlocked Hogsmeade I was already level 5 or higher and requirements were like level 2 or 3.

Difficulty is ok though. It just feels weird that they ask for such a low level lol.

Plus, I've checked the level required for the last quest out of curiosity and it says level

It's good though. I'm not really complaining because I'd rather have low requirements than spend hours grinding to continue the main story. It just gives the impression of being really easy.

Oh I see. Tbh its probably to make it more accessible/less frustrating to non-gamers.

Those level requirements don't mean anything. Unlike GameFreak, the HL directors aren't idiots :sistrens:. The game level scales. So long as u aren't under the required level, enemies will always scale to you. U can explore & overlevel all u want.

Game is arriving tomorrow. I should probably set up my series X in the meantime :duca:

The mere thought of this on Switch…

Just went far south-east on the map. It’s FILLED with enemies I love it!

I'm 15 hrs in and loving the game so far. Not a huge RPG fan in general, though, and starting to get really annoyed by the sheer amount of collectables (esp. chests and field guide pages): are these completely optional or will I miss out on something relevant for paying them dust? :gaycat6:

I'm still shocked so many games dont do this lol. Especially for bosses

They need to cancel it. :deadbanana4: It’s struggling sometimes even on PS5.

Agreed! I'm playing on PC and even here it's evident that it's not very well optimized.

The state of the Switch version must be... interesting.

I'm playing on Xbox Series S and I'm having no problems  in what sense does it struggle on PS5 or PC?

Maybe it's because I'm coming from Nintendo Switch that I can't appreciate the problems y'all find :toofunny2:

Nnn, same. Even if I don't love it, the game runs kinda perfectly on the Xbox s as far as I can tell.

I hate how the world is so drab though. I can't fault it graphically, it is obviously done well, but the stylistic choices are so unimaginative. David Yates's vision of the HP world has become the dominant one, and it just doesn't really work for me. My favourite place is the Herbology class, because it's a splash of colour.

Flying on the fantastic beasts is great though. When it gets it right, it is so good. It just needed more inspiring game design, and not a HP skin over a Ubisoft world.

There are indeed some noticeable framerate drops and also sudden pop-ins when raytracing is on (I'm playing on SX). Don't really get the upset, since the game runs super smooth on performance mode for those who are bothered.

On PS5 I've only ever seen the occasional pop-in on performance mode. It's very smooth
