American Horror Story | Stream on Hulu

This season is in the same vibe of 'The Watcher', the show Ryan did for Netflix with Naomi Watts last year.

Third episode was enjoyable-good as well, I'm still prepared for the upcoming mess.

Didn’t even bother to watch episode 3. This season doesn’t feel like AHS.

how? you can't get any more AHS than paranoid pregnant woman :deadbanana4:

Lack of iconic characters, lack of intertwining storylines, lack of iconic setpieces...

people act as if AHS was the greatest show ever when it started declining after S2...

S3 & 4 were still okay-ish

S5, 6, 7 were a bore or total nightmare

S8 was okay but still meh

S9 was actually enjoyable but felt like a Scream Queens type of show

S10 I haven't finished

and S11 I haven't even started

so far I'm liking S12 but mostly bc of Emma

This feels very CW budget last minute project and Emma is giving it all to make it look less tragic

I'm not disliking it, but this is the type of season that would work best when binged at once. There's a whole week in between the episodes and then not a ton of plot development happens. I felt the same way about Cult, Apocalypse and New York, even when I was enjoying them waiting each week felt like a slog.

This feels like a bit of a rehasg of that AHStories episode Billy Lourde did where she was pregnant.

I'm honestly liking it, there's an overall eerie uneasyness to the whole show I enjoy quite a bit. I just wish she had some sort of common sense or agency and start coming up with plans faster with Preecher and Nurse CDL to catch her husband cuz I know it's him and that doctor.

MH did the pregnancy storyline the best. Watching Viv eat those brains is history

the way nothing happened in that third ep :hoetenks:

i kinda want a big messy swing into a new direction, but they're obviously going for intimate + slow pacing...

These first 3 episodes were definitely enjoable-good, it still is early to say if it's a serve because for me it depends how the plot will evolve since also the previous seasons started good.

Can someone who’s read the book tell me:

1) are they staying true to it with the show (without revealing any spoilers)

and 2) did the book end satisfyingly? Or are we likely going to be disappointed if they stay true to the ending

Again, without giving any spoilers :heart2:

I read the book this past weekend and yes it's pretty much going with the book with a few changes of characters to flow better to write it for television. I can see why Ryan and AHS writers/producers were drawn to the book because it's very AHS-ish. If they keep going with the flow of the book it's going to get crazier. I'm interested how it will play out on the screen. I thought the ending was alright... kind of basic in my opinion but... (a tiny sort of spoiler in the box below).

Spoiler

I think they're going to connect the ending to another season of AHS - I won't say which season but it would make sense if they did :rip:

It's getting worse and worse...

I love Ryan Murphy and AHS used to be my favorite of his but lately, specially this season, it's just not it.

I gave up. Waiting for his others TV Shows though

This season feels a bit... cheap? Was the budget cut? It's missing something. Maybe it's the lack of a big cast, or variety in locations.

I do think it feels cheaper because all of the locations are very cold and lack detail. But I'm not sure the budget was cut... The ratings have been declining more and more for years and they still increase the budget every time. It went from an average of 4 million viewers per episode in season 3, to 1.3 million viewers per episode in season 9 and yet season 10 was the most expensive season in the show's history at $48 million. The first 5 seasons all costed less than $37 million, yet looked much more high budget than 6-12. But last season only had an average 270k viewers per episode, so maybe they gave up on big budgets.

The viewing figures don't matter because this show is gold on streaming, especially worldwide not just domestic.

Yeah I was gonna say it’s hard to really gauge the success of a show in 2023 on cable ratings. It’s stayed in the top three of Hulu since the beginning of the season afaik.

The show is massive for FX and Hulu, live viewers don’t really matter. And even so it’s still one of the top viewed fx programs when you count in DVR and repeated viewings.

Also tbh I find this season LOOKS expensive. It’s just not the sets we’re used to since it’s much more open and not contained to a single location.

While I’m enjoying this season, I feel like not much is happening. We know they’re doing something to her fetus for 3 episodes now.
