Still firm on this getting closer to $2.3B than $2.2B, which should also be enough to hold off the Titanic re-release for #3 all-time.  it's still doing a $70-80M global weekend, with 3 weeks until competition and it still won't just drop off a cliff once Ant-Man arrives.

6th Friday domestic is strong, $4.7M. Down just 34% from last week and a bigger Saturday jump should be expected this weekend. Should be headed for $20-22M 6th weekend. Another 30-35% drop.. pretty fantastic post holiday weekend holds.

Avatar 2 will likely end up as the 3rd highest grossing film ever. That is outstanding.

It really is astounding what James and co. have been able to accomplish. I am FINALLY getting the chance to see the film this week, planning on seeing it in a dolby at AMC. I have to admit, I'm not the biggest fan of the first film (I do like it though!) and really don't care for Titanic, but you just can't deny Cameron's staying power and talent.

Also, always happy for Miss Saldaña snagging another smash. A truly underrated actress who just keeps winning :wanda:

First film in 14 years to notch 6 consecutive weeks at #1. Last one to do it was.. Avatar.

With Russia and healthy China this could be a 3b dollar film.

Sad about James not getting in for directing. But hopefully he will for the next one. Half worried Avatar will get snubbed for AQOTWF for visual effects.

I think that would be a historic upset. Hopefully it wins VFX. The directing snub is unfortunate, but it was expected after the Denis snub last year. At least it got into Picture, Black Panther 2 didn't.

Didn’t even notice BP2 not getting in. It didn’t deserve anyway. Best Picture is way more important anyway. A forgotten fad that grossed 2 billion and got a BP nom. We love to see it.

It definitely wins Best Visual Effects.
