Been reading some negative Reddit comments & YT reviews, and even though it love the game, i can see where they're coming from.

Nothing sets TOTK apart. While it's not DLC, it's more like BOTW+. BOTW is the wagyu, TOTK is wagyu + salt.

  • Most sky islands are empty, & serve as platformers for shrines.
  • Underground is huge & a delight to explore, but after awhile u realize it's just 1 biome with the same few buildings copy pasted across.
  • No traditional dungeons
  • Story still told through memories
  • Enemy variety is better, but for 6.25 years + $70 i expected more than just a handful.
  • Personally never used Ultrahand unless necessary, or built any vehicles. The effort to reward wasn't there.
  • Fuse is also very unaesthetic & i always unequip my weapon when exploring :dies:
  • Oh & u can't pet dogs still nnn

It puts BOTW to shame & might be my fave game ever, but it's

I'm not very deep in but I share some of these complaints. I was loving the beginning portion when you were in the sky but when I returned to Hyrule I lost a lot of interest. It just feels like more of the same :katie: I'll see a location I remember exploring in BOTW and I just feel like why would I want to go there again also a lot of the Shrines aren't that interesting. I'm hoping it gets more enjoyable because when I played BOTW I couldn't put it down, but I'm struggling to have that same connection here.

My only complaint about the game thus far is that the damage scaling is... weird. It almost feels pointless to get more hearts because every attack in the game seems to reduce me to a quarter heart HP from full :skull:

It's not like its unbelievably hard because its still BOTW combat, but its definitely a bit janky feeling. That and enemies have way more health now

Went to the Great Plateau today expecting to just have a nice trip down memory lane :weeps: and I had that, but also got so much more :lakitu:

Spoiler

I can NOT believe how casually I stumbled upon the chasm leading to the central abandoned mine and all that comes with it :deadbanana2: Some people must play a lot more of the game and never even discover that.

It was such a fun quest, but lord i was pissed. Firstly i WALKED all the way while carrying those 4 individual eyes, but it never hit me to put them in the eye socket, i just left them in front of the statue :deadbanana2: so they all despawned & i had to do it again :deadbanana2: it took me 3 deliveries to realize they weren't there no more :deadbanana2:2nd time around i did it the proper way and built vehicles :dies:

I can appreciate that there are fans that are dissatisfied, but a LOT of the negative discourse I've personally seen is more about the BOTW formula and things from that formula that TOTK keeps. It's not so much that TOTK is bad at being a sequel - it's that a lot of people who aren't happy with it probably never really wanted a BOTW sequel in the first place, or at least wanted one with truly fundamental changes. It's also kind of hard for me, because nearly everything in this game is a straight upgrade for me personally, from story to characters to world to shrines to abilities to music... I love 99.9% of it.

Now, what they did to one particular location aesthetically, I could ******* gag, but nothing in life can ever be truly perfect. For that location alone, and for the generally more somber, calm, quiet tone of much of BOTW, I can still see myself returning to it. It's a weird feeling that it's even a question, though, since it was my favorite game of all time until this week. :gaycat6:

Despite reusing assets, TotK added a lot more from its predecessor than two recent direct sequels combined, but TotK gets the worst rep cause it’s released in same gen console so graphics will stay the same :lakitu:

Sis i'm so sorry i gave u the wrong location :deadbanana2:

i meant Forgotten Temple :deadbanana2: but tbh if u follow where the early game tells u to go u'll be told to go there anyways

Did y'all kill them, or run away until they left. Those things "die" also when it decides ur too far, & drop those turds.

There's this thing in the ground maze u need to touch before going up. Not the shrines.

I was only slightly above them. I basically keep freezing them then killing them with arrows. :coffee2:

I hate the Chasm so much. I can't play horror games and this part scared me shitless. However, I forced myself to do some exploring because the purah phone upgrades needs you to explore it. I will never set foot there again. :deadbanana4: Although there was a pleasant surprise there that I found. That kinda made it worth it :gaycat4:

I entered the first chasm last night and didn't last very long. :deadbanana2: Wil try again later

I haven’t played BOTW in like 6 years, so getting into this game was kinda fresh but also familiar. I was ecstatic with the sky islands, and then we dropped to Hyrule. :rip: and I’m like trying my best not to feel like this is a DLC.

This still will go down as one of my fav games ever though, bc I loved BOTW so much.

Encountered my first gloom hands and noped right out of there. I'll take a guardian over that any day. :biblio:

Was proud of myself for killing the gloom hands (despite them essentially depleting my bows entirely) near the Rabella Wetlands, only to find out they're quite common in the game, lol. I'm still pretty early in... I wish I was faster, but also I wanna savour it.

Still trying to beat the boss at the Wind Temple.

With full health, I am able to get down to the last hit three times in a row and get clipped by the boss.  Instant death.  I threw the controller and went to bed after my last fail.

I just found out that all my horses from BOTW were imported to TOTK. I'm so happy!

Does she? The memory order implied Rito < Zora < Gerudo < Goron to me  @the70s looks like i ****** up there too :bibliahh:u really should just explore what u want and create your own story. I feel like everybody having a different playthrough is the point of BOTW/TOTK.

Yeah I'm doing Zora now and then Gerudo probably because it's closer :gaycat1:it's tempting to do things in "correct order" / how they should be done but immposible
