It is intense but also very over the top and campy. Personally, I loved it and think it's one of the best horror movies of the year. It's not really necessary but I do recommend watching the first one to get an idea of what to expect... The 2nd one is a major step up from the first one in budget, story, pretty much everything lol but the first one is a cult classic and is great at introducing Art The Clown and learning why he is becoming an iconic figure in horror.

Thank you for this! Will definitely check out both films!
SmashingMiley Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 I really like VHS 99. All the segment are pretty consistent in quality. The last segment (which is also the standout) literally serve this

Leptine Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 'Barbarian' was cute but 'Malignant' has the most unpredictable and shocking twist for a horror movie these days.

Uncatena Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Smile was a cute girl, it actually had a lot going for it, especially visually and the score. The acting from the main actor was good, the rest was really really bad. It also couldn’t decide if it wanted to be campy jump scare fest or elevated horror detective story which really dragged the whole thing down. But that ending???? Damn. If I cared about the characters it would’ve gut punched me and it was highkey trippy and terrifying.

I am too tired to share all my thoughts, however, I really didn't care for the second act but felt as though the film redeemed itself in the end. My biggest complaint is that there wasn't a sequence past the initial discovery of the passageways that matched in terms of suspense. I was at the edge of my seat during that scene and wasn't pulled back in the same way again.

There is obviously a passionate and creative filmmaker at play here, so it’s a shame his debut was wasted on a mostly forgettable movie.
DoctorIce Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Terrifier 2. Noah Fence but the people who lust over and have a weird obsession with graphic torture porn like this belong on a register.

Buffy Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Barbarian was one of the worst and overhyped horror movies. Don’t know what y’all be smoking. Checking out Smile and Terrifier next.

Uncatena Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Now watching: Soft & Quiet. It’s indeed presented as one long take.

Hey uhm so… don’t ******* watch this unless you want your entire month ruined. It’s upsetting, relentless and depraved. And it’s very real. Imagine the anxiety inducing chokehold of the final act of mother! but without any metaphysical elements.
