We all know The Substance is rightfully going to win, but please give these 2 (2023) indie Canadian horror films which had limited release in 2024 some consideration since they're actually good and worthy of a high rank:

Speaking of underrated 2024 horror, I thought Lowlifes was very decent for a low budget film :giraffe:

I quite liked Heretic. Chloe East was amazing. Some beats took me out and the ending was messy, but its surprisingly twisty and creepy. Good atmosphere too.

Have you ever dreamt of rating 2024 horror movies?

Fairly ranked, best to worst, based on your taste. One single DM unlocks your ranking, securing your entries in the final list. This is… Late Night with ATRL.

You are the rater. The ranking comes from you. The ranking is yours. This will simply be an aggregated version of all rankings. You just have to share.

One list per user, one list rating all movies. A perfect balance for horror movie lovers. The one and only thing not to forget: You. Are. Wrong.

You can't escape from your taste.

Hello!

I am very happy to welcome you to the annual ATRL Horror Rate!

2024 was a year of extremes when it comes to horror movies.

One one side, we got more drama-inspired films than ever, on the other, balls-to-the-walls gore and extremism.

Now it's time to see how much you respected the balance this year.

Together we will once again determine the smashes and flops of horror movies released this year, ranking them and finding ATRL's one true masterpiece of 2024.

Will the surprise smash body horror The Substance claim the title? Or maybe the demonic, atmospheric Longlegs? Maybe it's time for sci-fi horror to shine.

Or will Art the Clown hack his way to the top? There is only one way to find out, so get to watching and ranking!

- Rank at least 20 and up to 50 of your favorite horror movies released this year from best to worst.

- Use the provided Letterboxd list as inspiration, but add whatever horror movie you want. This is your list!

- Optionally, you may also rank your 5 least favorite horror movies of this year from worst to best.

- Send me your list per DM by February 2

- The results will be revealed starting February 14

NOT us being ahead of our time! You had Humanist on your list last year and I had Red Rooms in mine.

Humanist will DEFINITELY be making my Top 5 this year! :duca:

I'm so unsure if I want to do this because I feel like 75% of what I've watched this year has been a disappointment :rip:

I just went through my memory and I watched like 8 horror movies from this year. Need to catch up quick to put every other one above Smeagol 2.

Don't forget to vote for Abigail, the true underrated future camp classic of the year

I rewatched it on the weekend with a group of drunk friends and we had a blast

I remember you have suggested Humanist Vampire for last year too and it is still on my watchlist and will be tuning into it. Hopefully it manages to enter top list. :foxaylove3:

Even if we just look at Haunt, little slasher from 2019 (actually scary and tense movie with such terrifying killers in a perfect setting of Scary House attraction) we could be seeing that Scott Back and Bryan Woods would be following Ti West's footsteps in the sense of honoring and crafting purist, raw horror stories. They, of course, managed to grab world on a big scale with A Quiet Place, but Heretic is even more scrumptious movie.

After being oversaturated with religious supernatural horror movies during past decade, it is so refreshing seeing raw, realistic religious horror-based movie such as Heretic. The characters are flawless, dark dry humor oozing from Hugh Grant's Mr. Reed is infectious and the whole movie raising such fundamental faith-based questions is pretty relatable too. Gothic inspired wintry/storm setting is just adding to that old-fashioned spooky atmosphere making it feel timeless too.

What I do love the most about it is that it doesn't actually promotes nor goes against religion as such, ending is actually very faith reassuring, it is objective piece of terror. I have even expected some pompous even try hard dialogue, but it all flew so well.

BackWoods and West know what makes horror good and compelling - everything that already exists is scary enough especially things that we are not even sure about as in Heretic.

Just saw Heretic and loved the first half of the movie.
The second half and ending as a whole just ruins the whole thing for me...
All the suspense and for what? :gaycat7:
