Reverse Warholian Posted December 16 Posted December 16 (edited) We all know The Substance is rightfully going to win, but please give these 2 (2023) indie Canadian horror films which had limited release in 2024 some consideration since they're actually good and worthy of a high rank: Edited December 16 by Reverse Warholian 3
Alaska. Posted December 16 Posted December 16 Speaking of underrated 2024 horror, I thought Lowlifes was very decent for a low budget film 2
Uncatena Posted December 16 Posted December 16 I quite liked Heretic. Chloe East was amazing. Some beats took me out and the ending was messy, but its surprisingly twisty and creepy. Good atmosphere too. 1
YourFavoriteWeapon Posted December 16 Posted December 16 Movie of the year! Now let's get Willa and Kyle some Academy Award nominations!
rooby.booby Posted December 16 Posted December 16 We need that letterboxd list and some more movie that will not be on it. So happy we have until the end of January to rate since I still have alot of movies to see.

You had Humanist on your list last year and I had Red Rooms in mine. Humanist will DEFINITELY be making my Top 5 this year! 1
Jay L Posted December 17 Posted December 17 Terrifier 3 deserves top spot. Lemme start campaigning now 2
Tylerbv Posted December 17 Posted December 17 I'm so unsure if I want to do this because I feel like 75% of what I've watched this year has been a disappointment
Repelex Posted December 17 Posted December 17 (edited) I just went through my memory and I watched like 8 horror movies from this year. Need to catch up quick to put every other one above Smeagol 2. Edited December 17 by Repelex

Alaska. Posted December 17 Posted December 17 Don't forget to vote for Abigail, the true underrated future camp classic of the year I rewatched it on the weekend with a group of drunk friends and we had a blast 3
Alaska. Posted December 17 Posted December 17 How did I miss this, wtf? Is that legend Tarman? I had no idea more Return of The Living Dead movies were coming

Hopefully it manages to enter top list. 1
Lemon Posted December 17 Posted December 17 (edited) Even if we just look at Haunt, little slasher from 2019 (actually scary and tense movie with such terrifying killers in a perfect setting of Scary House attraction) we could be seeing that Scott Back and Bryan Woods would be following Ti West's footsteps in the sense of honoring and crafting purist, raw horror stories. They, of course, managed to grab world on a big scale with A Quiet Place, but Heretic is even more scrumptious movie. After being oversaturated with religious supernatural horror movies during past decade, it is so refreshing seeing raw, realistic religious horror-based movie such as Heretic. The characters are flawless, dark dry humor oozing from Hugh Grant's Mr. Reed is infectious and the whole movie raising such fundamental faith-based questions is pretty relatable too. Gothic inspired wintry/storm setting is just adding to that old-fashioned spooky atmosphere making it feel timeless too. What I do love the most about it is that it doesn't actually promotes nor goes against religion as such, ending is actually very faith reassuring, it is objective piece of terror. I have even expected some pompous even try hard dialogue, but it all flew so well. BackWoods and West know what makes horror good and compelling - everything that already exists is scary enough especially things that we are not even sure about as in Heretic. hypnodemiluv Posted December 17 Posted December 17 (edited) I watched Krazy House and what a MESS. But a positive mess. This is something different i love that <3 8/10 Edited December 17 by hypnodemiluv typo

commander Posted December 18 Posted December 18 I watched Heretic and Hugh Grant is such a daddy . The girls ate that too. Definitely one of my favorite films of the year
killer_rose Posted Friday at 01:18 AM Posted Friday at 01:18 AM Just saw Heretic and loved the first half of the movie. The second half and ending as a whole just ruins the whole thing for me... All the suspense and for what?
