Haven't watched Cuckoo yet, but Strange Darling is a masterpiece! Don't watch any trailer, just walk into it blind. It's such a ride!! I used to do the "October Challenge" back in the day. It's very much the same concept: watch 31 horror movies, at least 1/3 should be movies you haven't seen before (and than give the movies a rating and short review). Won't be able to do it this year so extensively, so I broke it down to two to three movies a week. I picked movies I already know but haven't seen in quite some time. I thought it was going to be awful, but it was actually entertaining It was good. Def not as tense as the original, but still worth watching. 2

I'm not sure if I will manage to do 31 movies, especially mostly new ones but I already have a pretty long list. Just finished Strange Darling. It was... good. I honestly wasn't as gagged as I've seen a lot of people be, because i thought it was really uneven and I saw the main twist coming. But it was gorgeous to look at and Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner are worth the time alone 1
Tylerbv Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Strange Darling was nuts I'm not going to pretend it has the best narrative in the world, but I love the 70s vibe and Willa acted her ass off. Kyle did too, but he always does. 2
harwee Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Oddity and Strange Darling are both pretty solid I think. Oddity's more chilling and had some new ideas in the genre. The concept is slightly harder to buy into so naturally you see the cracks towards the end, but its pretty darn entertaining nonetheless. But Strange Darling is slightly better I think. The script is tighter and Willa Fitzgerald is fantastic actress, and her opening and closing the film, she carried 1

Yesterday I finally watched The Witches and now I wish Anjelica Huston was on every movie ever made

It was very impactful. hypnodemiluv Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Cuckoo was so boring to me, sad because i waited so long for this.
fauxtography Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Anyone watch hold your breath on Hulu yet? I was looking forward to it, but it's kinda getting dragged as boring, so idk if I wanna risk the time waste.
stochastic Posted October 3 Posted October 3 They really just copied and pasted Totally Killer and changed a few details. How derivative 1

I think the premise was very interesting and Sarah Paulson killed it (as expected), but it definitely felt longer than 90 minutes. I took a pause and I was surprised there was still over 40 minutes left A bit spoilery: Spoiler I'm getting a bit tired of the "is the lady crazy or not?" trope, and it doesn't help when the movie is this slow paced. Great gowns, beautiful gowns though 1 1
popmusicisdead Posted October 4 Posted October 4 saw Cuckoo last week. it was very meh and felt very low stakes. i'm probably the only one here who saw the director's previous film, Luz and that was so much better
Alaska. Posted October 5 Posted October 5 It's What Inside isn't 100% horror, but I strongly recommend if you have Netflix. The drama was so entertaining and messier by the minute 1
The Witch Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Apartment A7 a BOREFEST. but Julia Garner in the final scene washed our faves @Reverse Warholian Speak No Evil (2024) a cute serve. Lowkey ended Speak No Evil (2022) Daddy McAvoy Strange Darling easily Top 5 of the year. Gave me TITANE teas 1
Uncatena Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Honestly, Cuckoo was a ******* blast for the first 60-70 minutes. I lived the atmosphere and the time loop thing was a nice surprise/idea but the climax is such a let down. Nothing is wrapped up in a satisfying or surprising way, very cookie cutter. 1
Lemon Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Cuckoo hasn't used much of its actual scary potential. Setting is great grounds for a truly more thriller ride than what we got. Core idea is interesting, but it feels without strong basis and lost by the time it ends. Too focused on being shocker than delivering real jolts. I do like that it represents eco/folk horror type of movie.
Artur Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I've been hearing GREAT things about the new VHS movie! Like, one of the best ones yet. I love this franchise I hope it never ends! 3
publikcitizen Posted October 7 Posted October 7 I watched the new Salem's lot movie and it was pretty entertaining but nothing too scary imo

The first three stories were 10/10. The last two are less polished but soooo entertaining. Definitely one of the best overall. I don't wanna say the best because I'm still hyped from watching. But, damn, those 3 first segments will linger in my head for a lot of time. 2
