I personally think there are more bad movies in the franchise than good, but most of them are campy and self aware enough to pull it off. But then the fifth one is like REALLY serious, for example.

Yes, like i said, the are different in tone, but i think in terms of quality they are pretty consistent. The first one is decent, the second one scared a whole generation to this day, the third one is campy fun, the fourth one kinda sucks with its lame opening, unlikeable characters and unnecessary racism and the fifth one has one of the best horror movie twists of its decade.

There is no date for it here and no date for LNWTD. Romania sucks.

Just finished this, i agree "Night Swim" was bad, the cgi was so horrid omg but i've seen worse movies. 5/10

Infinity Pool
Baghead

Unseen

The Popes Exorcist

birth/rebirth

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines

From these, I would pick these:

Totally Killer

When Evil Lurks

The Wrath of Becky

Thanksgiving

Infinity Pool

Unseen

birth/rebirth

No One Will Save You has great cinematography and could be something you would enjoy (literal alien allegoric story).

I assume We All Can't Die First is actually The Blackening (interesting who-dun-it, but it is heavy on satirical social commentary, which ends up being borderline parodic, but it is its charm).

Lemme do it as well with what I've seen so far.

1. Infested
2. Longlegs
3. Abigail
4. The Watchers
5. A Quiet Place: Day One
7. Late Night With the Devil

OUT: Immaculate, The First Omen, Sting, In Violent Nature

The bar for a good horror movie this year is below absolute zero, so the ranking will change. :bibliahh:

Right, it should be #1, and by a significant margin!

OT: In A Violent Narcolepsy was fun for like 30 minutes and then quickly became an incredibly boring waste of time. Another to add to this year's already-bloated trash pile!

Significant Other was ******* weird :rip: Was on a Maika binge so I watched it, but it could not pick a genre.

I've missed a lot of the big horror movies, but I think for 2024 so far (some of these might be older but I just saw 'em this year so idk):

1. Abigail

2. Stopmotion

3. Double Blind

4. Late Night WIth the Devil

5. Longlegs

6. Imaginary

7. The First Omen

8. The Strangers: Chapter 1

9. The Watchers

10. Night Swim

I honestly haven't been obsessed with any of these though.. this year has a lot of good, not great movies. None of these got above a 3.5 from me on Letterboxd :rip:

Immaculate and The First Omen BOTH serving incredibly tired and predictable plot that has been done 5 million times.
Literally NOTHING new, nothing interesting. Snoozefest.

"Our film is a lot less explicit. It's a psychological thriller with a horrific concept embedded in it, rather than a straight horror film. It's easy to get scares or shocks out of horrific actions. Since I've become a parent I guess I am more mindful of not just having clockwork horror."

Quote

James McAvoy emphasizes that the same themes are explored, crucially class and how far we go to satisfy others, whilst also putting their own stamp on it: "Christian [Tafdrup, director of the original] was really pushing the idea of how far people would comply, like an allegory almost. Our film is 100% a remake and it honors the original, but it also does something a little bit different."

Oh this is gonna be a special level of dogsh*t huh? The Eden Lake director returning for another chance to demonise the working class and also probably having some corny heroic turn by the middle class protagonists by the sounds of it.
