hypnodemiluv Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Strangers Chapter 1 was atrocious. I can't tell it was a spoof or script was that STUPID and BAD. Irrational characters. 2.8/10
hypnodemiluv Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Tarot was too much Gen Z. Have some good scenes but overall campy mess. 4/10
Jack! Posted May 19 Posted May 19 I don't fully understand The Strangers lashings... like it wasn't great but it's absolutely not the worst movie of the year so far. For all intents and purposes it was a remake so it's literally fool-proof? Critics are kinda whack.

And although i love the og i get why some people don't and this version has the og's flaws amped up, shittier acting too
Leptine Posted May 20 Posted May 20 I've been reading that 'Longlegs' is getting compared to 'The Silence of the Lambs', one of my fave movie of all time, I'm very cautious about those kind of comparisons but I'm hyped about it.
Bimbo Posted May 26 Posted May 26 I finally watched Late Night with the Devil... it actually should be ILLEGAL for a movie to hype you up with a great premise, posters and aesthetics and deliver THAT Like just because it's about a flopping late night tv show doesn't mean we actually had to sit through an actual entire episode with bad boring monologues, guests and all If they were going to do that it could've maybe worked as a half serious mockumentary with better pace, tension and scares. The 80s physical effects for the gore I loved but it wasn't enough to make up for the rest of the movie. What a disappointment 2 5

Tylerbv Posted May 27 Posted May 27 I agree with the Strangers Pt. 1 lashings. It's just a worse version of the original. No new plot ideas. No new themes/twists. Worse acting, settings, and characters. I don't understand why they basically remade the movie but without the actual good parts Also the random product placement for that Venmo-like app at the beginning was weird. 1

Memoirs387 Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Just discovered Eli Roth's History of Horror on AMC plus from a few years ago. This is great stuff for any horror fans. 3 seasons. Fun watch. I mean I paid the $6 for amc plus and I'll just cancel it after I'm done with this. Well, I might watch the interview with the vampire series first lol. We'll see.
Artur Posted May 28 Posted May 28 One of my favorite movie critics completely destroyed the new Strangers (1/10). Special shoutout to Froy's horrible acting (he can't really remember a worst performance in horror this year). So cute, but so untalented. 1

rooby.booby Posted May 30 Posted May 30 I finally watched The First Omen. I liked it, i prefer it over Immaculate I am so excited about Longlegs i'm thinking about it almost daily. 😂 2 1
ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted June 1 ATRL Moderator Posted June 1 In A Violent Nature was wild I generally liked it, especially the POV and how it shifts, and some parts were super tense. But it was marred by uniformly bad acting throughout and kind of bad visual effects. Assume it just needed a bigger budget for better effects/actors.

It absolutely is, it's a perfect example of a director and actors coming together with very little money to make something very exciting and big. It's a huge mindfuck and has some very unsettling scenes. The dialog was mostly improvised and it was shot at the directors home. It's just a very fun experience overall. 1

What a disappointment It was hard to separate when it was trying to have a silly, funny moment or a scary moment Great premise and nice with the 70's aesthetic, but literally everything else is a miss
Lemon Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Both Immaculate and The First Omen are good examples of religious horror experience, but I like Immaculate better since that one still remains tense within "more realistic" central plot line. That is also why I find it to be good movie in religious horror landscape as a whole.
