I have watched only the first one and that one is good, but this horror franchise was never something that had my attention and interest like that. Still, I think I am going to watch this one.

you should watch the second one because Saw X is set between the first and second one and it gives you major context for some characters.

Saw X is coming for the best theatrical horror movie of the year I believe. An incredibly low bar btw!

Saw 1-3 is a decent horror trilogy, it’s all the sequels after that are a mess. I think my problem with it is that it loses its mystery detective subplot after 2 and becomes torture porn afterwards which is not the most enjoyable to watch.

Spiral was a step in the right direction but the twist was blatantly obvious from the beginning and I didn’t really enjoy chris rock in the role. The trailers for saw x looks promising tho.

I've never seen a Saw movie.

Exorcist: Believer is looking like a BOMB incoming. They should've left that overrated franchise in the 70s where it belongs.

Saw 1 and 3 are great, 6 is acceptable and the rest are not good. However the series as a whole feels greater than the sum of its parts and ultimately delivered the most potent horror imagery of like... the past 3 decades? And so ultimately I come out as a stan despite the vast majority of the series being bad:flower:

The Shallows is the most overrated shark movie ever. I don’t understand the hype.

It’s interesting how one of the best horror movies of this decade ( Pearl, X, The Stylist, Saint Maud, Influencer ) have troubled female anti-heroes in a leading role. Now, that’s true quality elevated horror that’s actually refreshing both from psychological and story-wise point. :clap3:

Um... HELLO.  Why did no one alert me to the fact that TALK TO ME is the best horror film of the decade!?

WOW.  What a phenomenal, beautiful, exquisite work of art.  I knew nothing about it going in and thought it was going to be another simple "teens die one by one" movie, but it was actually an artsy-fartsy masterpiece.  And UNLIKE Hereditary and It Follows, it wasn't boring!

The writing was exceptional, everything made perfect sense but the twists were still surprising.  The acting was fantastic, especially the three main characters (Mia, Jade, and Riley).  There were multiple scenes that struck me as supremely original (and I've seen hundreds of horror films), and it was actually quite scary.

Spoiler

The scene where the possessed-Riley is going crazy banging his head against every surface, only to be stopped by Jade when she flings her arm in front of his face... CHILLS.

The scene where Riley is licking his own blood from the drain... CHILLS.

The scene where they reverse the process and the little girl spirit invites Mia in...  CHILLLLLLS!

And I LOVED how it ended.  And I loved the kangaroo foreshadowing at the beginning.  I loved how it was about grief, loss, guilt, and fractured families.  I loved absolutely everything about it.  12/10.

I can't believe this was a debut film from two random Australian YouTubers on a 4.5M budget.  I'm blown away.  BLOWN.  AWAY.

I better see this at the TOP of the next ATRL horror rate, or I WILL be suing!

Also I watched Insidious 5 and Evil Dead Rise recently.

Insidious 5 was great!  A little predictable but I really loved the message, and both Ty and Sinclair were great.

Evil Dead Rise was nonsensical garbage, all action with no plot.  Why am I seeing so much praise for this?

It is true that it is better than almost any “elevated horror”, but I wouldn’t put it in the first place for this year, let alone decade.
It doesn’t dilute and like you said, you still tend to think about it, because film creators handle topic of grief with an actual substance and story-line, so we do have things happening and they don’t compromise, but it definitely lacks… X… factor ( pun intended ) in my case.

Anyway, at least we agree regarding Evil Dead Rise. That’s the subset of horror that I hardly am able to engage with.

Top 1 movie of the year. Ended Beau Is Afraid with ease. I just watched it and WOW! :msmarvel:

Spoiler

The lead character is so messy. Most of the time I was like "oh no, don't do that".

Evil Dead Rise was a cute girl, but definitely overhyped by the gays if I’m honest :emofish:
