BIOGRAPHY

 

Thomas Stanley Holland was born on June 1, 1996, to Nicola Elizabeth née Frost and Dominic Holland in Kingston upon Thames, England, United Kingdom. His mother is a photographer and his father is an author and comedian. Tom is the eldest of four brothers – Paddy, Sam, and Harry. He attended Donhead, a Roman Catholic preparatory school in Wimbledon. While at Donhead, he began dancing in a hip-hop class at Nifty Feet Dance School. Tom was spotted by an associate choreographer to Peter Darling, the choreographer of the Billy Elliot movie and musical. After a handful of auditions and training, Tom made his debut on the West End production of Billy Elliot the Musical as Billy’s best friend, Michael, on June 28, 2008, and performed as Billy for the first time on September 8th of that year. He began learning gymnastics while performing in Billy Elliot and briefly attended carpentry school in Cardiff, Wales. In 2010, Tom completed his role as Billy Elliot, which he shared with three other performers, on May 29th. He attended Wimbledon College until December 2012, then moved onto The BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology.

 

Tom voiced the character of Shô in the anime film The Secret World of Arrietty in 2010. In 2012, he played the role of Lucas, the son of Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, in his feature film debut in The Impossible. He earned high praise for his role in the film and received the awards for Breakthrough Performance from the National Board of Review and Young British Performer of the Year from the London Film Critics Circle. He won seven awards for his role. Tom played Boy in the short film Moments in 2013. That same year, he voiced the character of Eddie in Locke, starring Tom Hardy. He also played the role of Isaac, opposite Saoirse Ronan in How I Live Now, a film about an American girl being sent to England while a war develops around her. In 2014, Tom joins other former Billy Elliot’s in a live performance of Billy Elliot the Musical from The West End.

 

He was a part of the television mini-series Wolf Hall as Gregory Cromwell in 2015, also starring Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis, in 2015. Tom starred and directed his first short film Tweet, a story about a young boy visiting his grandfather and build a birdhouse, a short he created with his family. Later that year, he played Thomas Nickerson in In the Heart of the Sea, starring Chris Hemsworth and Cillian Murphy.

 

Tom joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016, introducing the world to his portrayal of Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War. He also was a part of the film Edge of Winter as Bradley Baker that year, also starring Joel Kinnaman and Rachelle Lefevre. Tom also acted opposite Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson in the Lost City of Z as Jack Fawcett. In 2017, he played the role of Brother Diarmuid (The Novice) in the film Pilgrimage before the release of his first standalone MCU film Spider-Man: Homecoming, which would go on to gross almost $900 million at the box office worldwide. He also played Peter Parker in the NBA Finals: Watch the Game and Peter Parker Takes His Driving Test shorts. To commemorate his role in the MCU, Tom decided to get the Spider-Man symbol tattooed on the bottom of his foot. Tom played the role of Samuel Insull in the film The Current War: Director’s Cut, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Shannon. He won the EE Rising Star BAFTA the same year.

 

In 2018 and 2019, Tom reprised his role as Peter Parker in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, officially becoming an Avenger. He filmed the short Science Fair prior to the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, then also the Peter’s To-Do List short. Tom voiced Walter in Audi’s short film Lunch Break before the release of Spies in Disguise, which he also voices the character of Walter.

 

Tom voiced Dr. Dolittle’s dog Jip in the 2020 film Dolittle starring Robert Downey, Jr. In the spring, he would voice the character of Ian Lightfoot in Disney and Pixar’s Onward with Chris Pratt. The film The Devil All the Time, in which Tom plays Arvin Russell, is expected to be released later in the year; along with Cherry, a film about an Army medic who’s suffering from PTSD who becomes a serial bank robber, playing Nico Walker.

 

Tom will also be starring in Chaos Walking as Todd Hewitt, along with Daisy Ridley and Nick Jonas, expected to be released in 2021. The film Uncharted is currently in the pre-production stages, he will be playing the role of Nathan Drake, along with the third Spider-Man film.

 

Tom has a long-term career plan by becoming a part of more franchise movies as well as being a part of more indie roles. He also has an aspiration of becoming a film director someday.

 

In his free time, Tom enjoys spending time with his Blue Staffordshire Bull Terrier Tessa. He also enjoys dancing, practicing gymnastics, and watching football (soccer). He sponsors The Brothers Trust, a charity that raises money for various causes, with his brothers.

I was a bad Tom Holland stan and didn't watch Chaos Walking until recently. Do we think those were really his cheeks or a body double? :laugh:

 

What's everyone's favorite Tom movie? Mine is probably Cherry.
