Ideally, Kamala would pull aย Alben W. Barkley and fail to become the Democrat nominee despite being Vice President for a Democrat President. But hopefully someone less bad would be the Democrat nominee in that case.ย

I honestly feel like the only one who could beat Kamala in a primary is Eric Adams. Democrats are trying super hard to shed being tagged with Defund The Police, so it seems... logical that's the direction they would go in.

Democrats serving Republican teas again? Pretends to be shocked: America truly has one corporate and corrupt major party. If Eric really wants to shed that, then I suggest he run as a Republicanย

Considering that actual Republicans are getting critical support from Democrats, like Evan McMullin and Liz Cheney, he doesn't have to go anywhere. :mandown:ย

Reminder that Lindy Li is the WORST. Truly ugly inside and out.

Why should progressives (a lot of whom are Independents, so we don't HAVE to vote Democrat) "vote blue/Democrat no matter who" if right-wing Democrats don't? I would vote against ANY candidate for whom she's a delegate (especially Biden)

The fact that Biden the other day was just wondering why his approval ratings are as low as Trumpโ€™s at his lowest were and now heโ€™s doing this despite rising costs everywhere being the main reason his presidency is so panned!ย :skull:

ย

Also liberals telling us that Biden saying he was going to make cuts to Medicare and social security in the 90s meant nothing today because he was making fake promises on the campaign trail for 2020.ย :bibliahh:ย This is why Democrats proposing a public option isnโ€™t โ€œgood enoughโ€ or โ€œbetter than nothingโ€. They never mean it. They do the bidding of corporations but will say anything to get elected, so you can always count on them to do โ€œbipartisanโ€ work with Republicans to make things worse and get America to hate Democrats more because Democrats truly are that cucked and that useless and wealthy liberals will still believe itโ€™s somehow a good thing just because both parties worked together to make a bad thing happen.

Thank you for sharing this. This is insane. Older voters are literally the most steadfast and reliable voters for Biden and he screws them over like this even while he campaigned on basic expansions to Medicare?? With inflation and everything else wrong with the economy, seniors are struggling just to afford groceries more than ever and he's just going to leave these hikes in place?ย

ย

I'm personally getting close to a point where I'll be making solid money for once and I'm in a position where I have to start thinking about how I'm going to support my mom who is on social security and Medicare. She's been struggling financially lately because the pandemic forced her into an early retirement. Not to make it about me, but I think young people are going to be in similar situations where their parents retirement situation is going to be fragile and they'll be forced into a situation of having to support their parents instead. Having to do that with immense amounts of college debt? With rising rent prices? It's not looking good for the country. And Biden is "mystified" as to why people aren't f**king with him these days? Lol

My brother is a teacher and he is a super conservative Republican and he absolutely HATES the talking points Republicans are pushing about "arm the teachers" and "one entrance and exit." He also hated the CRT talking points because he teaches history and said that's nowhere in curriculum :rip:ย  But he still will never vote Democrat, ever.

The way Biden has truly proven himself to be even more evil than I thought possible. Every day Iโ€™m even more disappointed, even though my bar for him was already on the floor from the very beginning.

Yet we're apparently supposed to vote for him no matter what. Out-of-touch neolibs don't understand that yelling "vote for him no matter what!" 24/7 just makes people more likely to either not vote or to vote AGAINST him. They can stay pretending that he's the "mOsT pRoGrEsSiVe pReSiDeNt!1" tho :cm:ย like honey, your fave is known for being a right-wing Democrat, that's why Obama picked him to be VP (despite winning a whopping zero states) in the first place and why he is kinder to literal segregationists (NBC News: "Joe Biden didn't just compromise with segregationists. He fought for their cause in schools") and McConnell than he is to people like Bernie

It's weird cuz Hillary, for example, may be less kind to Bernie and progressives than Biden is but she's not an absolute SIMP for Republicans like Biden isย :deadbanana2:

Whatโ€™s funny is at this point, Iโ€™m thinking Iโ€™m more likely to participate in this midterm and the next, and just skipping the presidential. Since my stateโ€™s senators arenโ€™t up for re-election in 2024 anyway. And I justโ€ฆ Biden is sucking even worse than I could have ever thought possible. Itโ€™s astounding, truly, that things could ever get this bad.

Hillary literally called Republicans her โ€œproudest enemyโ€ in the first Dem primary debate in 2015. Mainstream outlets criticized her for that (e.g., Ezra Klein on Vox). So, itโ€™s only natural we get a GOP-loving Democrat after her. It honestly just feels like a parody in terms of how much Biden simps Republicans.ย

Itโ€™s so crazy because these Medicare hikes would most definitely be extremely unpopular among even Republicans. :skull:ย Itโ€™s why even Trump promised to protect Medicare and social security; he knew it would be political suicide to say the opposite regardless of what his true intentions were. Democrats like Biden canโ€™t help themselves. They see the rapid inflation tanking the partyโ€™s approval but that health insurance company money is just too good to pass up. โ€œOh well, looks like 2022 and 2024 are a wash. Yeah we didnโ€™t do anything for the people like we promised but hey VOTE FOR US anyway and mayyyybe if we have a supermajority in both the Senate and the House weโ€™ll actually do something! ;) โ€ Biden could effectively single-handedly decriminalize marijuana - just use his executive power to do SOMETHING - which would at least start a conversation that hey maybe heโ€™s actually trying for a change here - but no, much better to have a photo op with a popular Korean boy band while telling voters to go bother Congress if they want something done.

ย

Also, I donโ€™t blame you for having those concerns. We just canโ€™t depend on our politicians to do anything for us. I try to remain optimistic, but we have so many hurdles to overcome. Gerrymandering getting worse, the Electoral College and the Senate increasingly not democratically representing our population, the Supreme Court being filled with Christo-fascists serving life termsโ€ฆand thatโ€™s just Republicans. Within โ€œourโ€ party, we have to gradually replace all these corporately owned Dems in Congress with progressive Dems and hope that none of them face the wrath of AIPAC and lobbying groups or else they could be primaried out or forced to sell out. Andย letโ€™s face it, the vast majority of voters are low info voters and will easily be swayed by deceitful ads from dark money groups, and I worry that it wonโ€™t stop at TV ads; we could see massive social media disinformation campaigns, bot farms, etc. with millions upon millions of dollars behind them. Itโ€™s scary to think how much our democracy could decline in the coming decades. Even if we do things right, itโ€™s going to take so many years and ending the filibuster simply to have a chance at passing any piece of progressive legislation - and that still wonโ€™t go without massive corporate backlash even if we do have the votes in Congress. So we really are on our own in the meantime, and thatโ€™s not to justify pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps or whatever, but I think we need to be prepared for whatโ€™s coming.

ย

And thatโ€™s only in regards to the economic issues. Because as we all are seeing, fascism is trendy again. Republicans are calling all LGBTQ people and supporters groomers, trying to overturn Roe, going after contraception, banning books, whitewashing history, offering more guns as the solution to these never-ending mass shootings, and theyโ€™re STILL poised to make huge gains in the midterms. Trump tried to overturn the election and was unpopular even before that, and he STILL is beating Biden in the polls for 2024. :skull:ย I donโ€™t think itโ€™s a stretch to say we may very well have fewer rights 10 years from now than we do currently. Republicans are going full steam ahead trying to institute a Christian theocratic dictatorship, and Democrats are too weak to even fight back - but theyโ€™ll gladly help them further push us toward plutocracy. The problem is most people just donโ€™t have the imagination to entertain all of this. We live in the US. How dramatic, surely this kind of stuff could never happen here! The Weimar Republic was extremely progressive before the Nazis took over. And look at Afghanistan in the 70s before the Taliban took over. It can happen anywhere, and we all should be alarmed. Furthermore, we canโ€™t even depend on young people and future generations saving us because the online alt right radicalization pipeline is turning lonely men and โ€œskepticโ€ classical liberals into anti-SJWs into full-on neo-Nazis. And now largely thanks to Elon Musk, Twitter - which once felt like one of the last bastions of leftist discourse - feels completely dominated by reactionaries. Thereโ€™s never been a greater need for leftists to be on the ground organizing and lighting fires under peopleโ€™s asses, and we should be taking care of ourselves and preparing for whatโ€™s ahead in the meantime for when things inevitably get even worse.

@Thugginย I agree with everything you just said. I donโ€™t have any answers at the moment because the problems are indescribably overwhelming. Right now Iโ€™ve had to kinda focus on myself a bit. But I think the ultimate answer is that we need to gather some movement far beyond politics because politicians arenโ€™t on our side. Even the few progressives in power at the moment have lost the plot because theyโ€™re trying to leverage the traditional levers of power which arenโ€™t made for outsiders. I donโ€™t know what itโ€™ll take for enough outside activist energy to turn into something meaningful, but thatโ€™s our only hope. We have to launch more efforts than just voting, canvassing, donating to politicians, etc.ย
