I just hate *why* it's happening, but ultimately I've been wishing for it to go for awhile now. Twitter is what radicalized me so long ago, but I'm interested to see if that changes in the long run. It's obviously more conservative now, but I still see mostly liberal/leftist content based on my For You page. And honestly, there was so much pro-Trump/USA/conservative content on TikTok. my mom and brother were being fed, from straight up lies and conspiracies to misinformation to tradwife influencers. I don't think TikTok is some radicalizing platform or tool to turn people against the US any more than other social media sites are. They just feed into what you're interested in and creates that echo chamber. These companies don't care that much about ideology as long as their algorithm locks you in for $$$. 1 1

My mother was racialized from Facebook and YouTube and she doesn't like Tiktok because it doesn't show her the videos she wants to see... I honestly don't think Tiktok is as bad as the other social media apps. I feel like they're a lot stricter combating disinformation than Twitter and Facebook are. But yeah, Tiktok's algorithm locks you in better than the other social media sites. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.. etc keeps those right-wing bubbles together, but on Tiktok if they throw out a right-wing leaning account on the fyp you'll see comments from left-leaning people shutting things down. I've been on baking tiktok and my entire fyp is sourdough and baking and i'm not mad at it. It influenced me to bake bread... lmao 5

The point remains that the reason the ban went through was that the stars aligned on the issue of the app being too pro-Palestine and anti-Israel. All other attempts to ban on "national security concerns" have fallen through. AIPAC wanted that content gone by any means necessary, and so the options were to ban it or have ownership transferred to an American CEO that would be willing to comply with censorship guidelines. At the end of the day, AIPAC almost always wins. 99% of the time, at least. 2
