Paywalls don't really change the fact that most Americans get their news from headlines and don't click on articles anyway. Which is why "burying the lede" is a thing. The most substantial information of an article is always buried in a paragraph that most consumers will never even bother to read to. The surface level stuff in the headline is all most will see, and often times it is ragebait for whatever audience the headline is trying to reach.

ย

People who want to be informed enough beyond the headlines are generally the ones who are already well off enough to subscribe and not be impeded by the paywall. Generally they tended to either be among the intelligentsia or they were suburban white women who were driven by the Trump Derangement circlejerking pushed by MSNBC, especially the Rachel Maddow viewers.

ย

Mainstream news that is free to consume is net-negative for profit. That's why NPR exists through public funding. That's also why Republicans want to defund NPR and PBS. With Washington Post losing massive amounts of subscribers, the likely outcome is that Jeff Bezos either pushes the paper to become fully pro-Trump propaganda or he cancels the paper because it's not turning a profit anymore.

NPR sounds like it's on its last legs too, they steady asking for more donations now.

ย

My point was more about this not being about perceived intelligence though.ย

I think you underestimate the anti-intellectualism of the American people. Trust in institutions and technocracy is at all-time lows. A big part of that centers on the perceived failures of Dr. Fauci, and liberals circling the wagons to defend him from every criticism that was made against him.

Went to a Halloween Party last Saturday here in the RGV. Had several conversations with friends and acquaintances about who they were voting for without making it clear what my stances were, and I can say that out of about 8 people, ages 25-40 all Latinos, only 1 said they were voting for Kamala.

ย

The rest said:

1. She reads as fake

2. She hasn't done anything while VP

3. Trump is kicking out the criminals, I'm not a criminal

4. Women should close their legs / use birth control, and if they want an abortion they can go to Mexico

5. Palestine, don't know don't care

6. I want my daughters to be able to use the locker rooms without boys and men infiltrating their spaces

ย

The most outspoken Trumpie at the party? A butch white latina lesbian from Cuba who early voted for himย :pancake:

Interesting. America is a very weird country

It has been found in house mice, domestic cats,... If people and certain animals are living together, it increases the chance of human cases. When it gets the chance to breed in humans till it goes viral from human to human, Trump will probably be in the White House.

I told you all. That man is a bad omen. Everything he touches turns into shizย :deadbanana4:

Honestly, I used to think the same, but it's just clearer as each day goes by that none of these problems are uniquely American when you think of it on a broader human behavioral scale. Also, everyone there was just a normal, everyday person - not someone with extensive criminal records or anything.ย :kitty:

Absolutely, but the Democratic leadership is that bad, unfortunately.ย :gaycat7:

*Actually, I want to add that Nancy Pelosi's ruthlessness is commendable, if only she wasn't also a hypocritical insider trader.ย

And yeah, you can say that Kamala sucks, and the Democrats suck, whatever, but still, do you think the "other side" is somehow above trying to win the election by whatever means necessary? Trump even said few months ago that "we don't need the votes, I have so many votes." That's alarming for anyone to say.

Oprah Winfrey Reportedly Charged $1 Million For Hosting Harris' Interview And Campaign Event

Vice president Kamala Harris' campaign reportedly spent $1 million on TV host and producer Oprah Winfrey for hosting her rally and interview during the presidential election campaign.

ย

In September, Winfrey interviewed Harris at the "Unite for America" rally in Michigan, where Hollywood stars like Jennifer Lopez and Meryl Streep showed their support through virtual appearances, attracting hundreds of thousands of viewers.

According to a report from Fox News, citing The Washington Examiner, Harris' campaign spent $15 million on "event production," with $1 million allocated to Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions.

You can laugh, whatever, but Trump literally said "don't bother voting, we've got all the votes we need" as posted in the Maddow video above. Imagine if Harris had said that, Fox News would flip out.

ย

And the Starlink thing, why was it necessary to connect the ballot boxes to the internet? If it's true, I mean. Sounds like a security threat.

I dont go on ATRL to see what Fox News has to sayย :deadbanana4:

Sis - if the Trump campaign said this - you'd be fuming. The hypocrisy is real.ย
ย

Where's the proof ballot machines were connected to the internet - where's the proof for any of this. It's an unsubstantiated mess.ย

That's why I said "if it's true." I don't know. There will be an investigation probably.

ย

I'm not alleging anything, just saying that Trump saying "we don't need the votes" and also "if you vote now, you don't have to vote again," those things sound alarming, no matter who had said it.

ย

I'm from Europe, so the result of the election is not that relevant to me, but If Elon is involved in something sketchy it matters to everyone. But again, it's a big "if." And like you said, both sides are alleging fraud now, so you bet there's gonna be investigations left and right.
