This might be an unpopular take in this thread, but things like this are why I never bought into the idea that Harris's stance on Israel/Palestine would be some death knell for her in Michigan. Muslim voters aren't a monolith. Many of them won't view Israel/Palestine as a top issue for them, and many others (like the leaders of this group) will disagree with her stance but ultimately believe in a harm reduction approach to voting and vote for her anyways because they want to stop Trump who will be worse on this issue. And then there's the people, like in every demographic, who simply don't vote anyways and won't be sitting out because of this particular issue.

So when we take out the regular non-voters, the voters who don't care about this issue, and the voters who plan to vote for her out of harm reduction, we're left with... maybe a quarter of the eligible Muslim voting population of Michigan who will specifically refrain from voting for Harris because of Israel/Palestine? That's roughly 45K voters in a state Biden won by 155K in 2020. Yes, there's a universe where Harris underperforms Biden's 2020 numbers by enough where that 45K ends up being bigger than her margin of loss to Trump, but I'd be surprised if that happens.

I was beginning to buy the narrative until the big, bad, promised protests at the DNC were a big ol' bust. It just showed that most of what we're hearing about how Muslims feel online are coming from, surprise, non-Muslims.

I'd rather take my chances on Harris making small progress in a 1 term than the destruction Trump would do with a 1 term any day of the week.

this race isnt just about what policy proposal the candidates can get done with the help of congress. It's also about a lot the other stuff they can do themselves just being the President. And  In all of those instances  we are better off having Harris in charge.

Like, yeah, Kamala will be the status quo because that's what we need right now. Until MAGA is beaten to a bloody pulp, we gotta play it safe. Leftists want to burn the country down because they think it will magically make everything better.

Watching Hillary interviews from 2016 and she's basically the only candidate from the last three elections who could do a decent job of interviews.

So after this is revealed as a panned flop in November, what will the GOP do to grow their coalition since they've ran all women away?

Something about Trump this time around does feel a bit unserious. I'm starting to believe he doesn't really wanna be bothered with running the country. He really just wanted to stay outta prison and get revenge on Biden beating him but after the SC decision and Biden dropping out he just wants to continue his grift. Like he doesn't seem interested in running against Kamala at all and is just using generic attacks he would use on any Democrat. Like don't get me wrong he's still a danger if he does win but he doesn't seem as invested as he was with Hillary and Biden, it seemed more personal with them. I know he's older now but still...

My complaints are that she and her party basically stand for nothing anymore. So to gain voters, they've opted to chase the Republicans to the right so they can campaign as "conservative, but not crazy"

This leaves people like me politically homeless. It's not a bridge too far for liberals who viewed the candidacies of Obama and Clinton as groundbreaking and progressive, and most won't even notice. But it does mean that the next Democrat who runs for president will probably be to the right of her. Her campaign now sets the tone for decades to come.

Got it. My question for you is this: Do you think her running a more progressive platform, say to the left of Obama, would leave her with a greater chance of being elected than her current platform? And this is a genuine, non-passive-aggressive question that I want your take on because I'm on the fence on how I feel about it.

I'm asking because from my perspective it seems many progressive policies are very popular among Americans in isolation but as soon as an American politician starts actually running on these policies, they become easy picking for opposition entities who rile up some weird and ignorant fear among the public by equating those same progressive policies to communism, socialism and un-Americanism.

Even just running as a standard liberal like Obama or Hillary wouldn't be as much of an affront as the current state of play. I'm not making unreasonable demands or flying too close to the sun here. But we've been lurching to the right ever since Biden got nominated in 2020, and that's where the momentum is heading. A Joe Manchin and Liz Cheney ticket in the 2030s at our current pace :skull:

The Morning Joe crew were gassing him up too. But tbh, Trump shows you can still be a front runner for president even as an indicted criminal. And that's basically what Adams always was, a Blue Trump.
