Kitty Kat Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Anyone know why JB Pritzker is being talked about as a presidential candidate for 2024 and how bad (or good) is he for the progressive moment?

Expand Pritzker is only being talked about because he had an emotional response to the July 4 shooting that happened in his state while Biden's response was a wishy-washy, empty "we need to do something" with Merrick Garland level engagement and energy. Which is to say, zero. Biden is literally the most unprepared-for-the-moment president the Democrats could have chosen, except for maybe Kamala, and that's who we're almost guaranteed to be stuck with next anyway. So people are looing around frantically at what other options they could possibly have, but nobody wants to step out in front of an incumbent because that would be career-killing.

Expand As the governor of my state, he's been a very good somewhat progressive governor. Gets a lot of stuff done especially with social issues. I don't think he will run in 2024 but he's a definite potential candidate in the future (2028 or 2032).
TheMusicProphet Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Move to Washington state. We're trying to get universal health care on the ballot.

Vermillion Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 I despise 538 and recall well their multiple meltdowns but feel obligated to post this here which is apparently a recent projection change:
ClashAndBurn Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Probably one of the few things Iβll ever agree with Axelrod about. Democrats are absolutely shameless trash for this
Vermillion Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 The notion the CHIPS act is supposed to bring "Middle America" (an abused and twisted trope of a term at this point) jobs as opposed to being a mirage of a boondoogle of a windfall for military contractors and/or conglomerate stock buybacks just strikes me as absurd. The utility of protest votes has been beaten to death here so I don't have the energy to revisit it but I can't openly scorn it at this point. Not like I used to. Not when so many are hurting, I can't. Bernie aside.

Not when so many are hurting, I can't. Bernie aside. Expand I mean, part of the package is subsidies for constructing fabs and job training. A lot of free money can definitely end up in stock buyback schemes, but incentivized dollars do just that: incentivize builders to build here. We see it on a micro scale (well still macro, but letβs say state level) with state incentives aimed at attracting existing companies and/or propping up new industries. But yes, it is more broadly true that the Senator in question is out of touch with the working class. I just needed an example to harp on that point.
Vermillion Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 The notion of being non-binary is such gaslighting when he's still defending his brother. NewsNation needs growth and ratings, that's all there is to it. There goes NewsNation's self-proclaimed "impartial" credentials they kept marketing.
TheMusicProphet Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Washington cares about you! If youre scared of the country, move here. More progressive than California IMHO.
rihannabiggestfan Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 (edited) His signature squint (or as this guy called it, "abnormally small eyes" ) is gone in this vid. and absolutely zero blinking, interesting Edited July 27, 2022 by rihannabiggestfan
Kassi Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Bidenβs eyes are squinty because he has βhunter eyesβ. Theyβre the kind of eyes usually reserved for hot guysβ¦ β¦ which Biden was at one point in his youth. Unlike some other Senator, whoβs always been ugly throughout every stage of development. Also the facelift has made Bidenβs eyes even squintier over time (think Ariana Grande). But I love what itβs done for his skin.

Kassi Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Anyway, apart from Biden having been a HOT youth (and the other one always been ugly), his squinty eyes were on full display during that speech. He just raised his eyes for emphasis on several lines. V weird to be going off the deep end with conspiracies about deep fakes and body doubles (like during the primaries). The left lowkey attracts a bunch of loons.
