guys,

ย

I was literally up until 5:30 AM reading /r/politics and /r/askaliberal and even as a Canadian I fear so much for what's happening in The States. The Republicans seem to be making sure that they will never leave office again, even if an election is lost. How they plan on slowly turning the US into Hungary one step at a time; first its abortion, then its gay marriages, then voter disenfranchisement, leaving NATO, giving the federal gov more and more powers, gaining more and more control of the media and journalism, all in the name of 'Freedom and Liberty'.

ย

This was literally me last night as I was reading through everything

Heโ€™s right tho. I voted for Bernie in the primary, but Hillary in the general. Like how stupid can you be to switch parties cuz youโ€™re butthurt?

Interesting that you're not saying that regarding the ~25% of (racist) Hillary supporters who voted for McCain over Obama. Yet Obama STILL WON unlike Hillary because he's not absolute unelectable trash like her

Hillary lost because of HILLARY, not because of Susan Sarandon.

The fact we're still explaining this to them years later.ย

ย

And they will be the same ones who scream; 'You don't understand politics!'. But yet here they are placing blame on a actress for Clinton's campaign failures. Also funny how one actress was enough to change the outcome of a presidential election but Hillary had a arsenal of various big name celebrities come out in support for her. Even rapist apologist, Meryl Streep, went on a anti-Trump tangent at a live award show. Oprah endorsed Clinton and white women still said no!ย :deadbanana4:

If a legacy actorโ€™s (marginal) influence is enough to subvert electoral politics, then maybe itโ€™s not a system worth maintaining or defending, but one that should be actively abolished.ย

US electoral politics isnโ€™t worth defending anyways but I just want to highlight how ridiculous neoliberals sound in their apparent lack of critical thought/deductive reasoning.

Susan Sarandon an impactful queen and legend. Jesus Christ who?

In hindsight, Hillary being unlikeable actually made her more qualified. She was stern, serious, and articulated. She stood her ground.ย
ย

I canโ€™t imagine a โ€œlikeableโ€ woman becoming President cuz you kinda have to be a ***** to get there in the first place.

It's HILARIOUS how the "stop bringing up Bernie!1" people are the ones still talking about HILLARY (someone who hasn't run for president in over 5 years) and Susan Sarandon (someone who hasn't run for president PERIOD).ย

ย

Just admit that if Hillary was even nearly as electable as Bernie, then she wouldn't have lost a general election to Trump despite her having all the establishment/media support in the world

With how impactful she is, why doesn't Susan Sarandon run for president?ย

I'm very concerned about how successful the right's anti-LGBTQ crusade has been even within liberal circles, especially with regard to trans people. Reddit is overwhelmingly liberal - and often even pretty leftist - but anti-trans **** is always making its way to the Popularย page lately. That video of Bridges calling Hawley transphobic for ignoring trans men and non-binary people who can get pregnant is viral there and almost all the comments are like, "I'm a liberal but this is why Democrats are gonna lose elections for years to come" or "She makes the insurrectionist look reasonable". I've even seen a lot of semi-viral posts dragging the family friendly drag shows too.

I saw that yesterday! I decided to start drinking earlier than usual in response.

ย

"We lose elections because people who use correct pronouns and inclusive language make us look silly!ย :oxygen2:"ย Literally why is discourse this ******* stupid in 2022? The actual issues facing everyday people are never discussed in any serious manner and the LGBT community, especially the trans community, is getting kicked in the teeth repeatedly as collateral damage here.

ย

When I heard that sniveling rat-weasel Hawley cut her off with "wooow, so you're saying" I vomited a little. And he knows exactly what he's doing, and nothing meaningful is being done to stop this **** or protect LGBT people from the resulting violence, which will get worse.

ย

I guess when you don't fund education, when you allow things like Fox News to be called "news" at all, and when you refuse to do anything to stop the party that's pushing things this way with their every single move, this is what you get.

ย

Ugh. I truly ******* hate it here, I need to get a passport and find somewhere better to go.

Republicans were extremely smart in how they crafted this crusade. By painting the existence of trans people as an attack on women and feminism itself, it was just perfectly catered to take off in neoliberal circles that don't actually and critically care about trans people. I think J. K. Rowling actually may have inspired that move on the GOP's part. But the fact that more and more neoliberal women are coming out of the woodwork to rage about terminology like "birthing people" which isn't used in general conversations (only withheld for medical purposes to properly treat all people that can get pregnant) rather than all the other issues facing the country is so deeply concerning.ย

ย

In a way, it doesn't surprise me that they were able to successfully target the trans community in this way. It's disheartening. But we all knew that the GP is transphobic and had yet to get mainstream support. The GP has always been awful on this issue and we needed to work on it. I think the way the "Don't Say Gay" bills were able to land mainstream support with people who claim to be pro-gay justifying them was most shocking to me. Maybe it's my own naรฏvety, but I knew we had a lot of work to do on trans issues. But I felt that with the record high support of same-sex marriage, that the GP was a bit more informed and understanding towards gays at least. But no. We're genuinely going backwards. They're still so damn daft on clearly homophobic legislation.

ย

I don't know how to proceed forward. We need more activism, of course. But it's just a sad state of affairs for the LGBTQ+ community all around.ย

A few pages ago, I posted "The Hispanic community said 'ENOUGH' [to Biden]", but it's actually virtually everyone :cm:

ย

I mean, as the sitting (incumbent) president, you can't even get 30% of the vote in a 2024 poll? Lmao

Why pretend you care about Latinos when your party has made it clear you think of them as a platter of tacos instead? :michael:ย

In 2008, far more Hillary primary voters voted for McCain than Bernie primary voters voted for Trump in 2016.ย

ย

Anyhow, the overwhelming majority of Bernie primary voters voted for Hillary in the general like you.

ย

The small amount of voters who did switch to Trump were in states/areas who's voting patterns are largely misunderstood; mostly abandoned blue collar people fed up with traditional politicians like Hillary for good reason - not the caricature of Twitter Bernie Bro painted by manufactured by mainstream media Democrats.ย

Or as a hit song :oh:

ย

ย

This is all Biden's fault. Neither Bernie nor even Hillary were absolute Latino repellent like Biden; thus, Biden is negatively affecting the (D) party, the general election, and downballot races :cm:

Without Bernie, I would never have plugged myself into politics. He is the sole reason I began realizing the urgency to involve myself. Vapid do-nothings who believe in NOTHING like Biden are the reason I've lost all hope & am considering plugging out for good.ย
