Exhuma (2024) - 8.5/10

Another great Asian horror film, the entity was so terrifying tho :gaycat6:

The Honor Farm was a chop, 1/5. They also got my man to be naked for a swim but barely showed anything. The only interesting thing was Chelsea Wolfe's song.

How is this the best film in the franchise including the original?

Feels strikingly classic and modern at the same time. It's also refreshing to witness a big studio allow a filmmaker to experiment with such artistic freedom to this degree, which is more often than not beautifully orchestrated chaos that's both grotesque and perverse. One of the most batshit crazy horror movies of the year too — all the way up to being appealed 5 times against an NC-17 rating.

Kinds of Kindness - 2/5

wtf :bibliahh: I might need to rewatch it but girl.. mouth agape

Harold and Maude :jonnycat: this is my type of quirky humor. The way he kept killing himself over and over and then we would just transition to another scene where everything is fine :dies: Any other similar films, humor wise?

Rear Window - 8/10

It was nice

Just got home from my city's special premiere of Longlegs.

It was decent. Nicolas Cage was very unsettling.

I really appreciated the land acknowledgment in the ending credits as well

Despicable Me 4

3/10 - This felt like a cheap copy of The Incredibles to me, but the chase scene in the grocery store was funny. I saw this because my bf's mom loves Minions and took us to see it with her. :clown:

Turning Red

9/10 - Loved it! The art style was great and I loved all the Chinese elements. The story and character growth were heartwarming.

I watched this on the plane coming home, so maybe not the best viewing experience, but I liked it so much I ordered the Blu-ray 👀

Paprika

10/10 - My 2nd time watching, but it had been years. This movie is IT. Really, really interesting and beautiful.

My bf is kind of a movie hater, but I fiiiiinally got him to watch this with me today.

The Truman Show

10/10 - This movie is kind of holy to me... I remember seeing the last ~1/3 of it on TV when I was little, and it really made an impression on me. The concept of this movie was ahead of its time imo, and it's very well done. The ending sequence is incredible/atmospheric. It's like a dream for me, idk... Maybe it's the nostalgia.

I saw this was free to watch on YT (but I have premium so idk if that's a premium thing or not...) after finishing Paprika, so I watched this one too in bed just now ddd. :gaycat:

4//10  - It seemed promising at the beginning but the story kinda fell flat. Several plot holes and some character decisions were just plain dumb and had me scratching my head.

Yeah, unless you have some nostalgia for this movie from your childhood this one's not gonna be cute. The ******* sister with spinal meningitis though, that **** was scary. The book is actually his scariest book, you should try reading it. And maybe give the remake a go, I've never seen it personally.

Yeah the sister was unsettling. The movie certainly succeeded in creepiness, but the story just seemed plain dumb at points. I guess I'll have to read the book then, thanks

Civil War

I really wished we had more context with the politics in the movie, like why there's the war, who are the parties, who is the leader in the opposite camp, etc

The movie has some nice scenes but it is so out of context that it's difficult to completely dive in it

Also the end part of the film is kind of absurd to me, the White House scenes are too much compared to the more indie style of the rest of the film, it's like going from a 'war slow thriller film' to a low budget Taken style of movie lol

It was still a nice entertainment

Glenn Close should have won the Oscar for this film.

Pleasantville

7/10 - I had seen parts of this movie when I was a kid and always wanted to watch it start to finish. It had a lot of beautiful moments, but it had some corny moments too that took me out of the fantasy I guess, and I thought the final shot/line was a bizarre choice. It was good overall; I recommend it if you've never seen it.

No Country for Old Men - is this the most overrated film of all time? Based on the reviews I was expecting a masterpiece but it was so boring. And it's not like I don't enjoy "boring" movies(I liked The Power of the Dog a lot), but this one was disappointing.

Mystic River - I liked it, even though it has a brutal and unfair ending.

Little Miss Sunshine - third time I've seen it and it still makes me :cries:
