Anatomy of a Fall (2023)

I enjoyed it, but tbh, I don't get all the praise the film is getting :skull: maybe i've seen too much movies/series about case trials, because I felt there was nothing "new" on this film. The acting of the lead woman was great though!

Watched 2 CMBYN-likes today.

Matthias & Maxime was just ok, nothing special. Would not recommended really, but it's not bad.

God's Own Country tho :weeps: they did THAT. Might like it almost as much as CMBYN.

Barbie was great! I hate woke stuff, but the conservatives really consider this movie misandrist? :toofunny3:

I wouldn't even call Barbie that woke. They had the wokest character be an edgelord 13 year old bully that NOBODY in school likes :deadbanana2:

It's one of the best advocates for equality :toofunny3: They made is VERY clear that Kens were oppressed. Matriarchy, patriarchy, they all leave one side unhappy.

And that ending with the President giving the Kens a low level role, & telling them to work up to it, is a perfect reflection of the real world history.

The only fair misandrist thing was majority of the real world men being exaggeratedly incompetent & stupid, but i'd argue it was more for aesthetic.

And they made up for all that by having the men fight each other, but cuz they're simple men they hugged it out and didn't hold a grudge :dies:

When Barbie ended at the gynecologist, to me, it meant Barbie wanted to be a mother. Especially with all the flashes of motherhood before her humanization.

It was a vágina gag for sure, but i think a 2nd meaning was intended. Conservatives should've lauded this, but they were too obsessed with hurdur woke culture.

10 Oppenheimer

10 Call Me By Your Name

8.5 No Hard Feelings

8 Barbie

7.5 Hunger Games: Prequel

2 Everything Everywhere All At Once

1 Red White & Royal Blue

No idea what i'll watch next. Probs CMBYN again :'( Oppenheimer is a better film, but CMBYN is SO much more rewatchable, precisely cuz the plot is relaxed. It's like Heartstopper S1. Chill, & Sweet.

How is Red, White & Royal Blue a 1

My heart sank I love that movie

The Sea Prince and the Fire Child (or The Legend of Sirius) from 1981

Saw some gifs online that got me interested and I’m really glad I checked it out! The Japanese version with subtitles was on YT. A lot of the designs reminded me of Fantasia (1940). The fire queen’s hair being as tall as the room took me tf out tho; I was cackling :deadbanana2:

Not a film, but I just finished watching Fellow Travelers for the first time, and I must say it killed me.

I cried several times while I was watching the final episode. Honestly my favorite release of 2023. 10/10

Poor Things – 8.5/10

Emma blew me away in this, easily her most impressive role and just a stunning achievement for her. The movie itself is almost perfect until the last act, which felt to me like it could have been cut. I understand they needed to include it to remain true to the novel, but the movie has already made its point by the time the husband is introduced so it felt redundant/excessive.

The Hateful Eight – 9/10

One of two Tarantino movies I hadn't seen. Always heard how boring this one is, which I understand because there is so much dialogue that it feels more like you're watching a play. But Tarantino he has such a genius way with camp and unseriousness that I was entertained the entire time. Need to watch the extended cut at some point.
