Jinni and Yeji have the same vibes so I can understand.

 

However Lily? I don’t understand why they decided to go with Lia when she’s mediocre compared to Lily. Plus Lily is even a better dancer than her  .

 

Maybe they wanted Lia for her visuals

she’s not that great of a vocalist and sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the other members… I’m pretty sure she bought a spot in the group.

Companies plan multiple groups at the same time, and some trainees are reserved for a specific group.

nmixx was probably going to debut with a much different concept (before JYP decided to copy aespa) so maybe jinni and lily fit that more

The nepotism conversation in K-pop is quite tragic because the link between idols of mediocre talent and nepotism is immense and has been since the beginning  Even in say SNSD, you have the obvious nepotism of middling talents like Sunny & Sooyoung, compared with the very modest backgrounds of Taeyeon & Hyoyeon who were casted purely for talent.

 

Aespa is an interesting situation. Karina & Winter appear to both be from military families, while NingNing's family is just a relatively well off Harbin family. All appear to mainly have been casted on talent & visuals. But then Giselle is one of the worst nepo cases in all of K-pop

Yeah Stray Kids being on another league so let's not compare them with Treasure. But honestly Treasure could've been bigger and their popularity may on par with their peer Enhypen if YG didn't throw them on dungeon for 1 year

NME was a UK publication firm and After Like seems like a typical house/dance music that would usually smashed on the UK OCC charts if a UK/Europe acts sang instead.
