OrgVisual Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 Y2k has been popular IN KOREA since a year ago, from fashion to lifestyle to reataurant and bar concepts etc. Why are NJ fans acting like their fav created something new?
Butters Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 1 hour ago, dlwlrma said: the y2k of NewJeans is a bit different from the one who popped up last year in kpop Heejin inspiration is basically jpop and kpop late 90/early 2000 jpop back then had a lot of inspiration from hiphop, that colorful aesthetic from 90s like TLC anyway the point is you can see more of the y2k old jpop/kpop on NJ than y2k Britney Paris Hilton barbie bimbo pink whatever What makes that different from this?

I know Talk that Talk came out after Newjeans but only by two weeks so there was no time for TWICE to copy. Just look at TWICE's outfits from that era and tell me, you can't see the similarities with newjeans fashion.

Kwangya Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 PAKjeans It doesn't feel like their company is just tossing out anything to see what sticks, there is a strong creative direction to their music/visuals. I also love how simple and melodic their songs are. A much needed break from bombastic and overproduced kpop that we've been hearing lately. Seriously, a lot of recent songs I've heard sound engineered to make your ears bleed (sorry Itzy, but Cheshire was not it). Hopefully kpop companies take note that sometimes what the public needs isn't ear-splitting high notes, shoehorned rap verses, or busy instrumentals that sound like 3 songs playing over each other. Sometimes we just need good vibes and crooning.
Billionaire Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 Whenever people act like NJ brought something new to the scene I always think of the YG stans that were saying that the idols under that company "weren't like other idols" and what not. I'm just not seeing it. The Ditto MV is very reminiscent of older music videos such as Into The New World, Gfriend's early works, etc, imo so why are we acting like it's something new. Not to mention the amount of smaller girl groups that have had similar songs and concepts and were paid dust
BigBangStan Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 (edited) There have been ggs with Y2K concepts before NewJeans but they did the best interpretation of the concept Edited December 25, 2022 by BigBangStan
Companion Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 (edited) Yall stop talkin about who started the damn trend just enjoy the vibes and visuals It is clear NJ isnt the starters but they are executing it a lot better than other artists. Maybe because their whole concept is about being the bridge between past and present (?) Idk. They dont use Y2K just for a photoshoot or a comeback theme. And it feels fresh cuz K-Pop visuals seen as this crazy huge sets, extreme lighting and full of contrast color palette for 3 generations. And what new jeans doing is give a more natural, chill feeling for the music and visuals. It is not hard to get it. Everyone think they are bringing something fresh so dont try to decline it But most of their freshess comes from their young age tbh if a 3rg gen group does the exact same things it wouldnt considered that fresh. Green Tea Is Green Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 I feel like the way newjeans is marketed is what makes them fresh to people, not really the concept, and musically their genres aren't too overdone in kpop as well especially in title tracks, that being said, if I wanted that style of music I'd personally just listen to k-indie artists or western artists that explore those genres much better I hate how kpop went from doing too much with the noisy and ''experimental'' trend to barely doing anything this year, it's like all groups, old and new, just decided to put out mid-sounding songs that are okay at most... at first I thought it was a 4th gen ggs thing but the 3rd gen ggs were no better
dlwlrma Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 (edited) I'm not sure what is the purpose of the thread if any grey between black and white is rejected "This is 100% that is 100% incorrect" "My favs are everything yours are nothing" It's how works this thread overall No space for any discussion, not a surprise is such a flop nowadays Edited December 25, 2022 by dlwlrma
Adama Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 (edited) Congratulations to MHJ from taking inspiration from an aesthetic that is trendy since last year on every fashion magazines. I can’t stand her ever since she put that letter, acting like a poor victim despite being very creepy and having disgusting pictures and arts of teenage girls in her living room. That woman shouldn’t be around children, especially after the creepy Shinee teasers she directed and the cookie lyrics. I know someday, New jeans will do a Lolita concept. The fact that some of y’all call her a genius… Edited December 25, 2022 by Adama
Tomek Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 29 minutes ago, Rhyme said: Not this again. Newjeans did not make Y2k concept popular. Everyone from Doja Cat to Dua Lipa to TWICE/Nayeon had been doing Y2K because it was already hugely popular. Doja Cat's producer is even named y2K. Min Heejin just took a hugely trendy concept and fooled teenagers/gullible adults into thinking it's fresh because a lot of people will consider a trend new when you put kids in it rather than industry veterans like TWICE/Taeyeon/Sunmi/etc. What does this even mean? What is Dua Lipa even doing in this conversation, she's only integrating 2000's fashion into her image. Besides, it's a completly different industry. You should've said Normani.
Tomek Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 There's a HUGE difference in doing a concept and turning it into a trend. Was Mariah Carey the first pop artist to ever feature a rapper? Throwback influences are everywhere in K-pop: Uh Oh and Pink Venom to late 90's hip-hop. Automatic and Dreams Come True to late 90's rnb. Weekend to 80's city pop. It's a common thing in music. But it's crazy how all of those songs are being lumped together to create a narrative. They're not even inspired by the same time period. None of those songs integrate the distinct element found in 2000's mainstream music: contemporary rnb and it's aesthetics. Newjeans was the first group to mix that with K-pop and and get a #1 SMASH. That's how you create a trend. And if you don't remember anything from their release, I'll remind you how it was highly praised for being fresh, which is something hard to do in K-pop, an industry that has tried everything under the sun.

Adele single-handedly ended the EDM era and started the ballad trend that happened in 2012. Did Adele have to invent ballad music?

Dialamba Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 Nj Stans are concerning. You can’t say they’re popularizing something which is already popular. And unless NJ is birthing “Y2K GG” they aren’t trendsetters.
Cotton Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 It’s crazy how NewJeans stans watched pretty much every girl group + soloists use the y2k concept and wear y2k fashion for the last 2/3 years and now want y2k to be boiled down to NewJeans just bc they had the most success with the concept.
