In terms of most popular/biggest/most significant this list was picked by korean music critics and industry people and a better representation of kpop past and present than anything else I've seen(the list itself is from 2020 though os its out of date).

It's hard to introduce anyone to kpop nowadays there's so much variety but if it's about quality I would recommend Mamamoo and their members solos, IU, Heize, Bol4, Taeyeon, Red Velvet, Yerin Baek, GFriend, Taemin

Hey hey, lemme say check out Seventeen and Sunmi since there aren’t many stans of those artists in here, but they have some of the best boygroup music and soloist music out there respectively, and both of these acts are self-producing and multi-talented creative souls 

 

but if you want a starter basic kpop playlist, you can check out K-Pop ON! and WOR K OUT playlists on Spotify, some of the most popular kpop playlists curated by Spotify itself.

spotify has some pretty decent playlists. kpop on! is all the new music and kpop generations has some older hits from 90s to early 2010s. personally i think user curated ones are better for "classics" but this is a good intro. 

for albums I would recommend "reboot" by wonder girls. nice 80s sound

If you wanna get into a soloist, I'm always championing for BoA. Not only she's the OG, but her discography is so diverse and really capsule the different generations of k-pop. And she's also a jpop legend, so there's always a plus to her discog.

It's nice to see 2NE1 continue to receive their flowers 

as I've noticed this weird 2NE1 erasure happening in the kpop fandom 

for some reason they get excluded from conversations

 

so it's nice to see actual artists still praising them remembering their legacy
