I do think all 3rd gen ggs have peaked as groups, RV 2017, Twice 2018, BP 2020, I really doubt they'll be able to match any of those years, even if some are still scoring hit(s) or getting better album sales, plus the later kinda just feels like inflation, still an achievement though, just not comparable!

Generally my view is that:

-Long-term success of KR tracks is driven more by stans than actual mainstream GP appeal. 

-If a JP track doesn't do well, it indicates to me that

1. K-pop stans prefer KR releases, after all its Korean music they want, right?
2. The GP isn't really interested either, hence not enough GP listeners to make up the reduced engagement from K-pop stans (Looking at that Billboard chart run... F&T and Better deserve BETTER)

-ENG tracks seem to be somewhere in the middle ground. The GP seems to be more receptive to it... I assume it's thanks to Disney lmao

 

So no hit JP(...or EN?) tracks = no interest from GP. Which is why I don't think you can really handwave underperforming JP tracks as a non-issue.

I'm gonna make the argument that karaoke rankings are much more indicative of GP impact (due to how widespread Karaoke is over there) than other platforms that tend to be more easily manipulated by companies and fans...

The state of 3rd gen this year feels like 2014~2015 in kpop (when SNSD, 2NE1 already peaked and newer groups like EXID, AOA and Girl's Day were on the rise)

When we say peak do we mean digital peak? Because if so then Twice peaked in 2016. RV 2017 and BP 2018 if we’re being honest since DDDD + FY > HYLT and LSG if you ask me. But regardless when y’all are saying how 3rd gen groups are over and then saying how 2nd gen groups outlasted…literally where. Most of 2nd gen were disbanded 7 years in.

 

RV are still smashing, as will BP and Twice are still getting cute lil hits. Their album sales are always increasing too. This generation’s biggest groups will still thrive long into 4th gen like there’s no erasure the way some of y’all think there is.

How is korean digitals supposed to prove you have peaked when its miniscule at this point in 2022

Like we’re literally 3 years into 4th gen now and 3rd gen are still smashing. 3 years into 3rd gen was 2018 and realistically there wasn’t a chance of seeing a SNSD/Sistar/2NE1/WG/T-ara/Kara smashing on the charts, getting a cute lil hit or even reaching new peaks in sales (thanks to K-pop’s globalisation for that one). They were beyond done commercially by that point.

Groups like twice bp rv are seeing increase in album sales and can tour as well but do tell me how korean charting should be decisive of their peak now. Also fmr is charting well anyway.

But they clearly said that FMR was a repeak overall in terms of the metrics? FMR is a bigger smash than some of their songs released in 2017-2019, the album sold amazing and the Spotify numbers are great second to Psycho as of yet. The impact is literally there with Joy’s part as if it didn’t go viral with everyone and their mothers doing it on tiktok etc. 

 

Definitely more impactful and successful  than some other girls’ most recent comeback. Ehem Aespa

regarding twice renewals, i’m starting to think they all will renew but some members’ contract will last shorter and there will be some changes made

they are currently the most active group in the company and are reaching new peaks and so i think JYPIG would be willing to agree to the most of the things they say

3rd Gen was the last generation that the public still kinda cared for boygroups (BTS, EXO, WannaOne, even Seventeen had a hit)
