Not when BTS and BP are still overshadowing the whole kpop industry ?

What if BTS enlist and BP doesn't renew their contracts, that will mark the end of gen 3

Some of the nicknames you guys have for the SNSD girls :rip:

1. Jaw

2. Yawn

3. Stiffany

Like can someone elaborate on these nicknames :skull:

1. Jaw: its because of Jessica's jaw surgeries, and how she continued to come back with a smaller and smaller jaw. Compare her debut with now, and don't let user Zack tell you otherwise :skull:

2. Yawn: This one is less clear, but I think its because Taeyeon can sometimes be a bit boring/low energy on stage, and in her music. She has a reputation for singing ballads. Also, Taeyawn kind fits

3. Stiffany is just because her dancing is super stiff. She also gets called Screech bc she used to be the queen of screaming her high notes, spwaning this iconic gif

k-pop truly peaked with 3rd gen huh?

b8dT1Nh.gif

regarding twice renewals, i’m starting to think they all will renew but some members’ contract will last shorter and there will be some changes made

they are currently the most active group in the company and are reaching new peaks and so i think JYPIG would be willing to agree to the most of the things they say

if someone in twice leaves i am crying real human tears - NO, IT WILL NOT HAPPEN.

at least give us another two eras. :emofish: it doesn't help that I only started liking them in 2020 (and when they completely replaced crackstink for me last year)

I didn't realise that The Feels was doing well over there. But I think this just furthers my point about companies not leveraging post-peak successes to maximize their brand in Japan.

(+The Feels may be their most streamed song, but streaming has grown massively in Japan in the past few years, so comparing stats with say, 4-5 years ago, isn't a fair comparison, and I think that they're still on an overall decline. )

It's still slaying in the Hot 100 though! :celestial6:

The GP is very much still interested in them, more than ever even, the decline was in japanese releases sales but even then I think they could sell similarly to what they used to sell pre-covid if they were able to hold offline events, its a big part of why japanese fans still buy so many copies and it shows on the decline of a lot of jpop ggs who were also affected by this, AKB going from consistent +1m to struggling to hit 400k comes to mind :ducky:

Not this when the post-chorus makes the whole song, especially the last one.

throwing my thots on twice renewals out, but Jeongyeon needs a long hiatus if not a withdrawal from idol life. she’s very talented, but I worry about her longterm health

maybe a transition into a Bom-like performer with minimal movement would help, but Twice songs aren’t giving her voice the shine it deserves

I agree completely. She has always been an above average performer and a surprisingly good dancer despite being stronger in the vocals department. So for me she was one of the strongest contenders of being a solo artist from twice. But these last few years took on her health and she’s struggling to catch up now. So maybe it’s finally time to give those strong vocals some shine by doing OSTs and vocal-driven songs. She even got some acting offers before and is beautiful so I’d like to see her act as well if possible.

It’s the fact the Twice members still don’t have personal Instagrams 7 years after debut. :rip:

I think the most likely to leave is between Tzuyu, Jeongyeon and Chaeyoung. Tzuyu’s mother chile..she a bit of a mess and I’m sure Tzuyu is missing Taiwan + there would be a lot of opportunities for her there. Chaeyoung and Jeongyeon just seems ready to check out of the Idol lifestyle.

I mean, I get where you're coming from. And feel free to disagree with me, but the way I see it is that if the GP had that great an interest in them, their actual japanese releases (F&T, Better, doughnut etc) would have had comparable success to The Feels on streaming. Which indicates to me that the success of The Feels can be attributed more to its own virality rather than the brand of Twice itself. (My other interpretation would be that the japanese GP is only interested in cutesy Twice.) Actual mainstream acts can put out any semi-decent track and have them chart for months on end. Case in point: Kenshi, Yoasobi, Yuuri, King Gnu, Yorushika etc etc. And this is a consistency I find lacking in not just Twice, but girl groups in Japan in general.

As for their stan base numbers in Japan, I guess we'll know for sure when(if???) they manage to release something there post pandemic.

(Once again this is NOT to take away from Twice's success!!! It's impressive enough they're still doing this well!!!)

I mean TWICE album/single sales decreased in Japan because they don't do fan event or concert with tickets inside the album, so there is no point of buying 10,000 copies of an album. Their success with The Feels prove that they are still IT in Japan, TF is probably the biggest GG hit in Japan since.. Feel Special

I have to disagree on that point

Because that's the case for most groups, even BTS have their japanese release having low numbers in streaming compared to their Korean/english in Japan

When I was living in Japan, except 'One More Time' & 'Candy Pop' (because they had partnership with shopping mall and/or some stores) I never heard any of their JP release even Breakthrough or HappyHappy which were decent hits in Japan. On the other hand, their Korean releases were often played in the stores or on TV.

As Decalcomanie said their japanese titles never really did extraordinarily compared to their korean stuff tbh, the fact an english song is doing so well is kinda baffling, and if I'm being honest I'd put the blame on Warner, the best thing they've done since 2018? is that Olympics gig they got to promote Fanfare (2020) but we all know where that went!
I know they're doing their best as they're not one of the companies with the best connections there but the promo they give their japanese stuff nowadays is... :rip:Aimyon and Twice are kind of the only ones keeping them afloat with the GP, but yeah the acts you mentioned have a bigger digital power, especially the likes of Yoasobi lately

Here's a full breakdown of their songs for reference though

Wonder if Hyeongseo is going to pretend like she doesn't know Busters.  And apparently Woodz got the full digital score. ...  I don't even wanna know.

Not when Tiffany’s high notes are literally the highlights of SNSD songs :tsk:

Henny... even Tiffany agrees nowadays, she literally said becoming a musical actress and prepping for it taught her so much more than all the training she received at SM. She especially said that all her vocal runs in Twinkle were SLOPPY :deadbanana2:

3rd gen groups like BP, BTS, TWICE, RV, EXO, Got7, MMM etc. all dominated/peaked from 2016-2020.

it’s difficult to say about Blackpink yet considering they haven’t had a group comeback since, and Feel My Rhythm is shaping up to be one of Red Velvet’s  biggest hits + they’re finally becoming album sellers

even Twice is having some of their best album sales and global success with their songs despite declining with their singles in SK

its a bit too early to tell with them imo
